Key bit to your post is 'in a division below'. He didn't have the consistency to play in the Premier League as he drifted in and out of games and was on the periphery. This is still the case but improving apparently according to Forest fans. Glad he's playing well, it's been a good loan for him. This is another frustration
Got a top young player out on loan flying allbeit in a division below yet we found it acceptable to go and spend upwards of 75m on three other players who play in his position?
Quite bizarre
It's the 75 mill investment into the position that's the issueKey bit to your post is 'in a division below'. You're so right, it looks like he's recently been moved inside and has taken more responsibility. He needs to be involved more in the game to flourish, as in the 1st goal today he won the ball centrally, drove forward and created a tap in. And if he loses it in the last third then so what, the best players in the world are forgiven as they are trying to do the exceptional. You have to say that of all our young players Dowell has been the most frustrating, because he has the most natural talent, a beautifully cultured left foot but his lack of application , tendency to drift out of games and fade after 60 mins have caused that frustration . The Forest fans were picking up the same things in his early matches. In the last four or five games though he has shown he is kicking on. I don’t mean the 25 yard wonder goals , we’ve seen him do that a number of times over the years, and not just the number of assists he’s adding to the goals , I think that’s six goals and four assists in recent games. The subtle flicks or pass to a team mate are now more penetrating , opening defences , creating space and leading to goals one pass after his so he doesn’t get recognition as an assist but he has played a significant role. The third goal in today’s Forest win is an example of that , and if you track Forest’s goals he’s done something similar on at least two recent occaisions that I’ve seen. The other aspect that is very pleasing is that he’s started three games in the past eight days , playing 90 mins twice and 77 mins today, taken off with Forest leading 3-0, he’s got stronger and fitter . He's still got at least two months at Forest that we can’t do anything about no matter how much people moan about it, that’s time for him to continue improving and developing and return and even better player.
It's perfect preparation for him to star for us in the championship next season
I’m so fed up and concerned at the minute I couldn’t even Bring myself to like that post mate , I was about to and it deserved it but I just couldn’t .
