First Deulofeu leaves, now Dowell - I'm nervous of showing any favouritism for any young players and will have to ask @jal123 to give me a heads up if ever he decides not to sponsor Barry lol

Really wanted to see him play for the first team but couldn't have imagined more than 10 or so appearances (mostly from the bench) depending on how things went.

If he could get 25 plus games, I'd consider it a really successful loan spell. Loads of potential.

Guess we''ll have to find out, don't we? No use building for one of the best academies around, if we're not prepared to give them every chance and willing to give them the time to make it. I fully realise that most of this golden generation in our U-23 probably won't make it, but still can't help myself thinking how great it would be if that actually did happen.

I'm totally with you on that though tbh. I hope beyond hope that they're going to make it. Dowell was one who was pointed out to be something great. It's just that last step into a prem team. Barkley and Davies have done it, I expect others may do, I'd like to see 'em all make it. If they're good enough. Problem (or maybe the answer) is that we're not in charge. I'm in a shrinking majority that thinks Ronald might just know what he's doing.

I would prefer Dowell to go on loan in the PL to judge his ability.

He'll get more minutes there. There's no rush for him. A year in the championship will be good for him. He looks like he needs to fill out a bit more to me anyway.

It baffles me why Koeman perseveres with playing him out on the right.

Think we may see a lot less of that if we finally get the Siggurdsson deal done.

I'd rather he spend a season playing competitive football than getting a handful of substitute appearances and playing in the U23s. If Dowell has got what it takes, he should be an absolute hit in the Championship.

We've also been heavily investing in new players for the U23 setup too. Don't see the risk you're speaking of.
