I'd take him simply because as a stop gap he can play both full back positions and has a decent cross on him. Ten assists last season says so

May - you have had at least 12 months to plan for it and you know ageing and not fit for purpose full backs Coleman and Young are going to be out of contract.
You then give them both a new contract. They are both still obviously ageing and not fit for purpose.
3 months later you then go after another ageing full back because your original decision to ridiculously offer contracts to those two has already backfired. Coleman is injured (again) as he can’t take the rigorous of PL football and Young is basically just wank.
It’s gross negligence and whoever is making these decisions is absolutely appalling at their job.
