Ok mods, i can understand why you keep closing all the Kirkby threads, but something some one new (sorry for forgeting name) said, was that we are getting new members all the time and they would be interested in reading other peoples views.

(you did say unless something new happened, it would remain closed. to the newer members, this is new and to the older members, their views are new)

maybe sticky one and just let people talk it out in there?

that way it would be all kept in one place and if you wanted to read or add to it you could.

could make life easier for you if it was contained in one thread instead of breaking out into a new one every few hours

i dont agree with a lot of what is wrote, but think it is wrong to deny members a proper place to debate what is to lots of blues, THE major everton talking point. they ALL (myself included) need to reread what they have typed before posting and remember they are talking to fellow blues

Just a suggestion

If anyone cares to know, I merged the thread into the previously closed Kirkby thread.

Why you ask?

Cause frankly, I'm tired of hearing the same song, 45th verse with really nothing new being added to the discussion.

Some of you may say that is a bit harsh and you may be right. But I haven't seen any discussion about Kirkby on this forum turn out for the better. It just gets worse and worse and deteriorates to the point of no return. The pro-Kirkby people put their tired old views forward for the 50th time and the anti-Kirkby respond for the 50th time with their tired old views and vice versa.

Nothing productive comes from it and it ends up being a slanging match.

Sorry, that's just how I see it.

Locking it is the way to go, if new members want to know why Kirkby cannot be discussed then they can check the Kirkby thread that has been locked. I'd wager that whatever they have to say about Kirkby has already been discussed in that thread and until something major unfolds about destination kirkby it's best to keep a lid on that can of worms.

This forum prides itself on it's cheerful disposition towards everton and evertonians in general. But, when a Kirkby thread is opened all hell breaks lose. The place becomes much less approachable for new members who don't want to be slated for views about what is definitely the most controversial topic any Everton forum has at the moment.

The people who want it open will predominantly be the people adament we should stay in Liverpool. Those pro Kirkby will be happy to let the club get on with things and therefore not need to discuss it.

However I do think one should be open (not sticky) for those that wish to discuss it, those that are bored of it all (like myself) dont have to view it.

there is another way.

Lock it and sticky it.

That way, somebody new comes on, they can peruse at their leisure AND IF THEY HAVE ANYTHING NEW TO SAY, they can start a thread to be merged with it... and if it's nothing new, which it isn't likely to be for a while, they can stfu or get tw@tted with the ban hammer.

If the thread is locked and NOT stickied and disappears out of sight, newbies will automatically assume that the biggest thing to happen at the club in a hundred or so years hasn't occurred to us, and will no doubt regale us with their revelations.

Lock it and sticky it, best of both worlds and will save some serious mod headache-age

I voted for a sticky thread. Bottom line is tha we need a thread. The fact that I am bored of us chasing our own tails doesn't detract for the need to have prominant Kirkby thread.

I will then only dip in when something breaks, it makes the site more democratic, in that the subjects can't be said to be fixed, and of course it allows for "debate".

I would though consider adding an FAQ (from both sides of the fence) about Kirkby which would be locked. It willset out the arguments and act as a refernce point for the more technical aspect of the debate e.g. Can you really develop the Loop.

If a newbie doesn't know about Kirkby by now, I would question what type of supporter they are. It would be like a nuclear bomb has been set off and that person has no knowledge of it.

Anyway, that's my tuppence worth.

The Kirkby thread that's stickied on the Everton Forum - is there any point in having it there if it's only opened to dump a few new posts and then locked again?
