Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

what i love about martinez is the fact he always talks about 'OUR' football club, very rarely does he say this, or everton football club. Its like hes been a fan all his life and is one of us.

As long as the 4 he brings in arent all dfrom wigan ill be happy. Hopefully midfielder will be a top signing but from the way he talks (and ive just watched it) he comes across as though he doesn expect or intend on losing Fellaini or Baines. 3/4 new faces in addition to them.

A sale of either changes things dramatically, a new transfer kitty and he will need to appease the fans with a really good player in their place.

That 'one per unit' part is interesting to me.

Does that mean a keeper, defender, middleman and a forward?

Be happy with that. As long as the midfielder is totally boss.

Far more important to get a 'totally boss' forward. We created too many wasted opportunities last year.

The age and the fee don't bother me, it's reasonable for a one in three PL goalscorer at 29. Though there's no guarantee that he'll strike at that sort of rate given the inconsistency in his career.

I don't know that he improves the starting XI that much, which I think is the biggest concern.

It remains to be seen what other business we do this transfer window. If he's the marquee signing, then I'm not sure we're much better. Wait and see.

The point was people were complaining about resale value and an aging squad. I say we've enough to resell and be fine.

But we don't.

Even if we get £18m for Baines, we can't get a replacement that provides everything he does for that price. The same with Mirallas, the consesns on here is that he has proved to be a ridiculous bargain for us: If we sold him for £10m, we would not be able to immediately find a suitable replacement for any less. The same is true for Coleman too.

Fellaini is the only player we have whose sale would CURRENTLY generate funds in excess of the cost of replacing him. We need more players whose sale would generate more than the cost of replacing them and whilst this alone does not make the Kone deal bad, it does mean we shouldn't be buying any more Kone-type players (in terms of age and price).

Lad, you want the moon on a stick.

I'm not massively for or against Kone, but what he does offer is genuine pace, which is something we've lacked (apart from Mirallas last season) for a long time. How many goals do we score on the break? Not many, and the only ones I can think of from last season were scored by Mirallas. If Mirallas has another injury prone season, we're going to need more players with pace.

as with Wigan Martinez appears to say the right things to the media ,which makes him a bit of a media "darling" its what happens on the pitch that will concern people ,talk is cheap as they say

I would think that the time to judge his first season, is at the end of the season. I don't think you can judge any manager on transfers until how you see the way they work(or otherwise!) for him. No one knows until the team plays!

Is the correct answer.

If at the end of the Season Kone is sitting on 25 goals, it was a great move, if hes sitting on 5 goals, it was a bit meh.

Agreed. We need more players with good counter attacking ability.
Would be better if we can sign another Mirallas with 6m though

I don't see why people are crying about the signing of Kone, we've had Denis Stracqualursi, Jo, Saha, Beckford, Anichebe, Beattie and Johnson all playing upfront in recent years and they've all been train wrecks. When did we all of a sudden become this super power? Over night? We cannot afford 20 million pound Negredo's, I thought everybody understood this. Stop moaning lids, this forum has fallen into a pit of depression lately, get real.
