Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

Bit disappointed to hear Kone is a target. Would have thought at this stage what we need is quality over quantity. Personally I would prefer our budget spent almost entirely on a fantastic striker with a few loans/freebies/rejects coming in than us buying three or four decent players. Nonetheless, for some reason I trust Martinez. Interesting few weeks ahead..

fair enough, ask for what you want...you can have 40k mate

annoys me. He is being given the chance of playing in the premiership for a top six club and hes moaning about money.

we don't want money players. Players that move for money over success are not needed at Everton

To allay any fears people are having that Kone would mean Jelavic departure.
Obviously we don't know what's happening in regards to ins and outs, I have a feeling that kone may well be a replacement for jelavic who I can't see being a Martinez player whatsoever.
Signing Kone should not automatically lead to selling Jelavic. Jelavic is probably at his lowest market value currently too.
He was superb when we first signed him and could recapture that form under Martinez.
Also we need a squad. All the sides we hope to compete with have 3-4 quality players in each position.
Who has indicated that Kone deal means Jellys departure...Kone and Jelavic together could be boss!
Echo mentioned it 'Kone’s imminent arrival casts some doubt on Nikica Jelavic’s future, after the Croatian endured a classic case of second season syndrome following his explosive introduction from Rangers.
But Martinez refused to say whether the Ivorian would be a complement or a replacement for the Croat.'
And a few fans have been suggesting it too. I think we would be mad to sell him.

Well, I remember Martinez mentioning something so I went back to find the interview. Martinez fan interview with Wigan fan forum:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBL1ML2iOfk
Fan: "Will it be easy to keep everyone happy when we play with predominantly one striker?"
Martinez: "Well... we play with three strikers, you know. People think of one striker but we play with three. What's important is to have as strong a squad as we can have. Being happy for me, that's easy, as people train, people play and football makes the decision; whoever train and plays well, plays. I'd rather have extra numbers than be weak. We had 24 players available for the Stoke game, all fit and fighting to be available. I had my problems, which was having to select 18 players out of the 24. That's magnificent."

So a) he won't sell him if he doesn't play because he definitely likes a squad, and b) he may well play him because the traditional 1-up-top system may not be the default choice from now on.

His language is straight out of some jarg business school in Alicante.

Also this from Wigan forum not too long ago. I mean it's not much in and of itself, but in context could mean that he's more likely to stay in North West.

Still nothing about him signing for Everton, but on a North West Counties League page on Facebook this has just been posted:

Wigan Athletic's Ivory Coast international Arouna Kone has this week set up an office at Ashton Town, as a base for his Arouna Kone Foundation.

The foundation, which was set up in 2007, aims to build a hospital and a doctor's surgery in his home district of Abobo, back in the Ivory Coast.

The FA Cup winner was a guest at the club during the end of season presentation evening, and this deal will see Arouna and his team down at the club on a regular basis.

Now I know that being at Everton isn't too far away, but maybe, just maybe, news of his departure is premature.

That particular fan used it as evidence to suggest he wouldn't leave Wigan, but given the distances between Wigan and Liverpool that's unlikely - but Wigan and Newcastle? Much more likely.

Rumors that he asked for 60K per week

The word "swivel" comes to mind if that's true.

Rumours though.

Probably a lie.
