A lot depends on the player himself. He could push a move through if he really wanted it as Chelsea aren't exactly short on defenders coming through their system to replace him either. They have Tomori and Chalobah, both very highly rated.

Thing I've noticed about him is that there's a bit more urgency in his play compared to the other CB's at the club. He's not afraid to take the ball towards the half way line and play a quick, accurate pass to someone rather than just dwelling on it for a while.
