Quit while you have a few years left to feel the benefit of it and before your forced to through I’ll health, my mum has been a smoker all her life she is currently in hospital again for the 4th time in a year due to c.o.p.d (diagnosed 5years ago)and other health issues due to smoking the latest being pneumonia again 3rd time out of 4!stays in hospital.she has tried quitting and done so a number of times the longest was 12 months and for some reason started again and her health has deteriorated slowly at first but the last 18 months it got a lot worse even if she quits now the damage was s done and it is sad to see a once fit and healthy person who enjoyed holidays abroad and days out now unable to do the simplest of things without the need for an inhaler
Sorry to hear that mate. My mum was diagnosed with COPD a few years ago solely down to smoking. Her habit is the thing we fall out over most, but for the first time (after being told her lung capacity was 40%) she said she wished she had never started.

She has been cutting down and is about 7-9 ciggies a day now and has also upped her activity levels within her limitations. Taking the dog for a walk and trying to do a few more steps here and there (sent her a fitbit over).

Fingers crossed for your mother.

It killed my mum.

She will have good and bad days with it, which seem to follow no rhyme or reason.

Learning to play the harmonica is good lung exercise.

I would advise your mum to quit completely if she can. My mum couldn't, and it hastened her passing.

Sorry to hear that mate. I'm hoping mine is able to make a considerable lifestyle change.

I'll mention the harmonica to her, but she is starting to learn how to swim. Without going into a huge dialogue these are huge steps for her.

We cant be told mate.

Ive spent my life telling my mar to stop, the kids do the same with me.

Its just habit and weakness im afraid.

The thing that is forcing me to stop is the price, cos im very stupid and ignore all the negative health aspects.
Same I still smoke my self although a lot less I’ve cut the amount in half at least I’ve done this without realizing it until after Christmas when I was given 5 amber leaf pouches and they lasted me into February and I’ve slowed even more since.but I still haven’t stopped completely it’s habit and my go to thing when something stressful happens I reach for a ciggy,I am determined to pack in and slowly I’m getting there

Ahhh carry on! I want to make a 'humorous' post about your passing in the Dead Thread about you for revenge for all your posts in there.

Seriously though, best of luck, I used to be a 'social smoker' although that made me laugh, as most of my non smoking mates were sat in the boozer while I was freezing me bollocks off outside on my own! Finally stopped socially when I didn't drink for about 3 months!

Good luck! 👍

She is at the point it’s now or never shorter time between hospital visits sadly I don’t think she will

Today’s the day guys, my last day as a smoker. Set a quit date which is tomorrow, got my patches and an inhaler gizmo to help me through the first couple of weeks but hopefully I’ll manage it. I stopped previously for 12 years but stupidly started again 2 years ago but have decided to now kick the habit for good. Not gonna be easy as I love having a smoke in the morning with my brew but health and stuff has to come first as my 50’s are slowly creeping up on me.
best of luck Kurt, it can be done. Mrs S used to smoke and gave up 14 years ago.

Good luck mate, hope you stay off them.

I hate myself too much to quit

Well done and good luck. Moving up from smoking onto crack?

Good luck with this.

I tried all sorts, patches, hypnotherapy, champix etc. Final thing that worked was Allen Carrs book. Read it 7 years ago and not smoked since.

Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking: Be a Happy Non-smoker for the Rest of Your Life https://amzn.eu/d/hulnbJ2

Different things work for different people, but whatever works is worth sticking at.
I would echo this. I read that book and was able to give up easily. First 2 or 3 days there were some slightly difficult moments at certain times of day when I liked to spark up, but it was mostly very easy
