Sorry to hear that mate. My mum was diagnosed with COPD a few years ago solely down to smoking. Her habit is the thing we fall out over most, but for the first time (after being told her lung capacity was 40%) she said she wished she had never started.Quit while you have a few years left to feel the benefit of it and before your forced to through I’ll health, my mum has been a smoker all her life she is currently in hospital again for the 4th time in a year due to c.o.p.d (diagnosed 5years ago)and other health issues due to smoking the latest being pneumonia again 3rd time out of 4!stays in hospital.she has tried quitting and done so a number of times the longest was 12 months and for some reason started again and her health has deteriorated slowly at first but the last 18 months it got a lot worse even if she quits now the damage was s done and it is sad to see a once fit and healthy person who enjoyed holidays abroad and days out now unable to do the simplest of things without the need for an inhaler
She has been cutting down and is about 7-9 ciggies a day now and has also upped her activity levels within her limitations. Taking the dog for a walk and trying to do a few more steps here and there (sent her a fitbit over).
Fingers crossed for your mother.
