Last Film You Watched

Watched two old Sherlock Holmes last night, The Spider Woman, which was ok, Holmes pretending to be dead at The start of the film. Also House Of Fear, which I really enjoyed.
This one was based in an old house and one by one they kept getting killed, was a good story.
Obviously both with Basil Rathbone, who for me was the best to ever play Holmes.

Basil Rathbone overacted like Kane in the penalty area ; Jeremy Brett was a far superior Holmes.

Not usually my sort of thing but I enjoyed this. A former soldier struggles with life whilst trying to bring up his daughter living wild in the woods of Oregon. His battles with the authorities and with his responsibilities to his daughter and himself take their toll. A much better film than it sounds from my description...

Brilliant. A subtley mysterious film about paranoia, jealousy and masculinity. I don't think there is one concrete narrative in this film and the way it is brilliantly done as you just accept that you know nothing.

Watched ‘Your Name’ again on the weekend - same Director, and its an amazing film. Will have to find ‘5 centimeters’ and rewatch it as its been 10 years and i dont think i sat through it properly first time.

Your Name is one of my faves as well; but I can sit and watch most in awe.

The Predator. Uber Plop. 1 out of 5.

the new one?

why are all modern remakes/sequels of classic 70's/80's sci-fi (made say after year 2000) just total pants? my guess is the priority being to appeal to a global (chinese, indian) audience: it broadens the appeal while losing the edge.

so many examples of film series that are rubbish now but where the originals are utter classics:

Star Wars
Terminators
Alien/Predator
and loads more

the missed opportunities just annoy me.

Yep, the new one. I can’t get over how bad it was. You’d think with great original films to draw from, years to develop the scripts and big budgets they’d make some decent stuff.

Finally got around to watching Hereditary on Prime - had amazing reviews when released last year.

It's an absolute masterclass in pure dread. This is horror, it dials everything up to 11 and doesn't let you go. A horror film at 2 hours was, in my eyes, a little bit too long to drag out a 'monster' but it completely gripped me from start to finish. Fantastic acting and all round horror. The sheer dread reminds me of Rosemarys Baby.
