Last Film You Watched

I am not sure if we have discussed Red October. But I enjoy that movie as well (not just for the Clancy story, but the US Sub scenes are spot on).

As for the Final Countdown....do you like planes? If you do, then watch the movie! It's awesome!
I've often still watch YouTube clips of red October, and the comments section is full of submariners extolling the films realism, from Scott Glenn as the calm captain to the sound guy jonesy's choice of earphones

Scott Glenn went underway on a sub, shadowed a real CO, then spent a day giving real submariners real orders.

His performance was spot on. And the sets created were spot on as well, from the battle-lanterns to the plot, to sonar, to the escape trunk Ryan boards the sub through.

@mccole and @Gwladysstreetlad apologies I was just joshing.

But seriously, A Z-Grade character Captain Marvel makes half a billion dollars in three days in a rip-snorting 1990’s action fest featuring a 70 year old man who incredibly seamlessly looks 35 again while DC’s A listers cant even make that in three months and cant even get CGI mustache removal right.

Billions of people are literally giant frothing stiffies at the conclusion to Avengers in which the fourth installment is gearing up to be one of the greatest movie spectacles of all time.

Marvel is so far ahead of DC right now Batman should hang up his tights and Superman should fly round the world really fast, go back in time and move back to Krypton.

Meh, swings and roundabouts @McBain the MCU bubble will burst eventually. The thing is about comics movies these days is that there's no such thing as z listers anymore, people don't go to see big names, they go to see the MUC, which is a credit to Disney. Iron Man was the original star of the MCU and he was traditionally a C lister prior to the movies.

You can't necessarily judge a movie by the money it made anymore because by that logic all the horrendous transformers movies are masterpieces. If money is the be all to end all then......

I'm not churlish enough to say that I'm not looking forward to Avengers 4. I've thoroughly enjoyed two out of the previous three Avengers movies (Age of Ultron the exception and was terrible imo) so I'm confident I'll like this one too. The direction they go in during this movie will be very telling. I think they're making a massive mistake if they make Captian Marvel the ultimate hero of this one, post End Game? sure, but after twenty plus movies the core team need to be the main focus of this movie imo.

Marvel is indeed comfortably ahead of DC in the movie buissnes at this point. It's been more then established, over a decade head start will do that, it doesn't make Captian Marvel any less bang average though....

DC are miles ahead of Marvel in terms of t.v. shows and if it were up to me I'd have them focus on that instead as the superhero movie bubble will burst big style in the next decade, while tv style shows on Netflix, ect will always get good viewing figures.

One thing I simply cannot fathom with fans these days is why anyone can take such pleasure at one corporate entity (Disney) making billions of pounds/dollars more then another corporate entity (Warner bros) as though it was a personal triumph. I've always wanted Marvel to do well myself, I'd of liked the whole comic industry to do well frankly, unfortunately a large section of marvel fans feel the need to crap on anything that doesn't fall under their banner and go out of their way to make it fail, all the while hysterically applauding anything that is.....

I have never said Marvel isn't whooping DC arse but they will never make a better movie the The Dark Knight.

I love Marvel but Batman is superior to every Marvel character and DC have just messed up a bit with Ben Affleck but Marvel messed up 2 Hulk movies before they got their "universe" in check.

I think DC will be back on track with Aquaman, Shazam and Joker. They won't make Avengers money but they will be good.

The big question will be after Endgame because they will kill off BIG characters so will it turn out like Star Wars after Han died and fanboys moaning or will they create new stories without Stark/Captain/Thor/Hulk because honestly I know know if they have the characters to run another "universe" with Spiderman and Black Panther plus C-team super heroes

Personally I want individual stories not crossovers

A rom com, I guess. Not my usual film and it was a combination of silly, nice, mildly amusing in places and interesting enough to make me want to carry on watching to see which one of the possible happy endings happened...

Does the Dark Knight count though? Obviously it's DC, but that depiction of Batman is not part of the DCU.

I think the big thing with the post-Endgame MCU is can they create the same quality of characters (in terms of how they are written)/chemistry/casting that they did with the Avengers? As has been mentioned before, Iron Man was a C-list hero until the films, so it doesn't seem like finding the new characters to introduce will be a problem.

Haha okay Kevin Feign.

Captain Marvel is another Marvel film just not really needed like Black Panther, Ant Man 2, Thor 2, Iron Man 3 but they make $$$ so they chuck it out with a little scene which adds to The Avengers and Fan Boys lose it because they have some nerd pap in.

Aquaman is better the Captain Marvel BUT Aquaman isn't better then Thor: Ragnarok.

Justice League is ok not awful but it's too childish which is why I enjoyed BvS because it was darker.

It's just that way it is, opinion. Mad isn't it.

I find this intriguing. As much as I liked Ragnarok, Captain Marvel is simply a better film. The chemistry between Larsen and Jackson is refreshing.

Not seen Aquaman yet, but he and Wonder Woman were the only two decent performances in Justice League - although is that more due to the actors, or the way the characters were written?

Captain Marvel

This film lacked any interesting characters for me, and Cpt Marvel just seems too strong. I always felt Iron Man could lose, but I can’t see how I’ll ever feel the same about her. The humour was very hit and miss as well. Some times I giggled, but usually the jokes did nothing for me. I kinda like the lead in this film, even if she does lack a bit of personality compared to other heroes in this universe. I will be disappointed tho if Endgame ends up with a random «new» chick as the saviour, after 20-ish films of building Stark, Thor, Widow, Cap etc. 5/10

Just goes to show how personal an experience movie-watching can be. I thought the humour was spot on, subtle and funnier than MCU has delivered for a while, and Larsen's portrayal of the character was really satisfying. The interaction between Danvers and Fury showed off the personalities of both characters very well IMHO and the chemistry between the two actors was excellent - all the more impressive when you consider the interaction was not romantic in any way.

I wish they'd done an origin movie for Black Widow, including her meeting Hawkeye. Very much a missed opportunity and I suspect we will now see Black Widow killed off in Endgame and "replaced" with Captain Marvel.

Nah Ragnarok is miles better then most Marvel films.

With Marvel all I found myself doing was going oooh 90s reference every 5 mins and the chemistry is tacked on and rushed straight out of every odd couple/buddy movie.

Ben Mendelsohn is by FAR the stand out of that movie followed by the cat.

They tried to Wonder Woman the story and sadly it's just comes across as rushed plus they missed out on the Secret Invasion storyline which is one of the best stories Marvel has to offer.

I think you watched with one eye mate. The chemistry was great, I didn't think they'd go back into Fury's beginnings and it just shows what a deep understanding of the world they have created. It was set in the 90's. They didn't overcook anything. It was just there. It's as though each movie is another episode of a TV Show delving into backstories while creating new arcs with each tale. At least 32 heroes spread across 24 films, and who knows what they've cooked up for the 'finale'.

I gotta stop you right there.

1. Things that are very entertaining make money.
2. DC and Warner Bros was making money off Batman and Superman for the last 40 years, long before the MCU.
3. If Captain Marvel was a DC film and it was exactly the same thing but with Blue Beetle or Aztek or Animal Man or whoever, I would still walk away going geez that was an entertaining film, I enjoyed that. DC have taken a cheesier, lower quality route - and the complete failure of isn't down to some inner hatred, is becasue there is a clear difference in quality, style and substance of the films that is so obvious. The Dark Knight was a commercial and critical success because it was a brilliant film. The DCEU is a complete cinematic failure becuase there is no singular creative vision behind it. It's a mess and has always been since they hitched it to Zack Synders Pop Gun Direction.
4. I think the MCU is clearly cyclical, and will follow the comic idiom of birth, life death and re-birth completely. That's what makes it compelling.

They are good at collecting fan boys, no question, so were take that and other populist trash. They will also never get near the quality of Nolans batman trilogy, ever
