Agree about the points about the film. Disagree about Woody Harrelson being an average actor, think he's top drawer myself.

Why do people get so concerned about following what was in the books, film is a different medium and concessions often have to be made.

I actually quite liked the Hobbit films, mainly because I rate the LOTR's trilogy by Jackson and the Hobbit films weren't that far off the mark.

Concessions get made in every adaptation of every film ever made, they were made in Lord of the Rings films and nobody complained (other then a tiny minority who got laughed at by everyone else) because even if you didn't agree you could see the reason for the change.

The difference with these films is that when you alter a story so drastically it should at least be for the better and the Hobbit films weren't imo.

But I see it all the time on IMDB, those who have read the book of said any film slating the film because it didn't follow precisely or live up to the story in the book, yet those not reading the book will think the film was superb.

The Hobbit films are very well made and as entertainment, hit the mark in that genre of fantasy film.

Well that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I thought the LOTR films were as close to perfection as you can get in a film form and the Hobbit films were trash. Just how I see it.
