A war film without the Hollywood romance, its brutal at times but worth it to see war through a different view
One of the greatest films ever, IMO. A truly shattering experience, and a side of WW2 that's never received much in the way of coverage on screen. Easy to see why Klimov lost interest in making films after this... clearly, he'd put everything into it and was never going to better it. Watching the kid visibly age as he endures yet another hellish situation is as incredible as it is harrowing. The scene with the
bodies piled up behind the house, even though you only see them for a second,
is just so powerful and troubling.

Anyone seen Colour Out Of Space? Cant stand Nicolaus Cage but it sounds interesting, anyone?
It's definitely worth a look, although you should be warned that he does dial up the Nic-o-meter in this one. It's quite an interesting story (Lovecraft), but I thought the film ran out of steam a bit and started to drag towards the end - could have lost 10-15 mins or so, IMO. The director, Richard Stanley, made the headlines for all the wrong reasons just last week.

The spoiler part you mention is horrific,it really is a war film you have to see,the glamour and glory is stripped away and yes you do see the kid aging terribly and almost becoming inhuman

I caught Come and See by pure chance on Channel 4 a few years back. Harrowing watch, I felt transfixed by it.

I come back to it every couple of years. There are so many moments where you're not certain if you've seen what you think you've seen.

The main character wasn't a professional actor, in fact none of the people in the movie are professional actors.

It's the greatest film ever made and if I hadn't stumbled across it I would never have heard of it.

It really is a shame that it hasnt had the viewing it deserves,it a horror film in so many aspects,I rate it as one of the most disturbing films I have watched

Can't argue with that - there's not many films I consider to be genuine masterpieces, but that's definitely one of them. Even the sound design is incredible - the opening scene with the recon plane and that garbled recording of Deutschlandlied playing is really eerie. Like you, I come back to it every few years, and it's yet to lose its power.

In an effort to get it to travel a bit further, they did make an English dub track for it, which actually works quite well, although obviously it's not nearly as effective as the original language version. But as you say, it really hasn't reached the audience it should have, at least not in the English-speaking world. There are so many horrifying scenes - I just remembered the
gun to the head scene when they're posing for the photo,
which is such a sickening moment.

I haven't seen the dubbed version,I think it would take a bit away from the film, again the spoiler bit is true,in the whole film there are scenes that just capture what horrors happen in wars,it strips them bare

It's the equal measures of surrealism and horror, there's nothing I've seen that comes close to that impact and the sound design is a huge part of it. The engine noise with the Fw-189 on it's own is ominous.

But, every part of the movie has the ability to disorientate, disgust and shock, it's a genuine masterpiece as you say.

If anyone reading this thread hasn't seen Come and See, ping me a message and I'll point you in the right direction.

An Australian mockumentary type film about a plumber.

Just put it on whilst it was quiet working from home thinking it was a nice, daft comedy to pass the time.

It was, but it was also much more than that and had me in tears at parts. Brilliant film

I watched The Dose, an Argentinian film set in a hospital where deaths in an ICU unit suddenly increase after a new nurse starts working there. It was OK - quite nicely done and watchable, but nothing special. Bit of an over-familiar story, really, and a real three-star effort.
