Last Film You Watched

Should I try watching it again? Literally got to the point where he walked into his bosses office and had a flashback of Agent Smith - said 'nope' and left.

Good job my cinema pass is like £12 a month
I wouldn’t bother in all honesty. The more I thought about the more I realised how truly awful it was. At first I thought the idea was ok, then I remember the original and it was “nah, that’s not good”. The first scenes were there talking about it being a game should have been enough for me to switch it off

It was a train wreck

Just finished The Matrix.

The opening act was painful, sort of picked up and I didn’t mind the idea behind it and how it sort of tied together. A few massive holes that were glossed over, but I was enjoying it to a point.

But that final act just bombed it for me.

A special mention to Neil Patrick Harris who just owned every scene he was in, he was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Maybe it would have been better if it had been written before they had their ops

*legs it
Just watched it, no idea what the point of it was. It didnt add anything really to the original. It was like a tribute act or something.

Agree NPH is excellent and totally against type. Jonathon Groff as Smith didnt work at all, no menace.

My local cinema showed the original a week before this came out, so i went to see that again on the big screen, so the orig followed so soon by this one was like one extreme to the other

Went to see Ghostbusters Afterlife today at the cinema ( I know. It’s been out a month, I’ve been busy) I liked it. The only thing I would really say is that it was a little slow, in terms of pacing, but it made me laugh and the acting was good, I was particularly impressed with the young members of the cast, they carry the film really and can all act well.

Watched it last night, I get what you mean, it felt a bit earnest and obvious. Trite, even. I thought it was a depressingly accurate reflection of the state we're in, though, in parts. I had nightmares about trying to save my family from the apocalypse last night. Picked the wrong day to run out of weed lol
I've heard critics describe it as heavy handed and I can understand that. However, the times we're living in with the virtual self caricature we see in politicians and political talking heads aswell as in the celebrity culture, it's impossible to get a subtle satirical message across. It would look like a documentary.

Planning on watching Dont Look Up this evening, ignoring the reviews.

Watched it last night too and really enjoyed it.

Some Cagesque over acting, really funny in parts, A list actors sending themselves up and carrying quite a chilling message underneath all the madness of the film.

Would’ve happily gone to the cinema to see it.

Doctor.webp

Good film in the end. More explicitly supernatural, and there's some tension in both adapting King's novel and providing a sequel to a film he notoriously wasn't on board with but it manages to land both narrative strands, even managing to fold in the book's original ending which is quote nifty. There's some nice callbacks to the original but it still manages to take its own road, its more redemptive and nowhere near as stark and nihilistic but not without its own chills and shocks.
I watched the directors cut, which is bloody long and my mind did wander here and there, but it mainly wandered into all the filthy things I'd do to Rebecca Ferguson so even thats a result.

Must get round to watching the director's cut of this, as I really liked the theatrical version. The baseball kid scene is one of the most horrible/shocking things I've seen in mainstream cinema for many a year.

For anyone interested, MUBI are currently doing their £1 for 3 months offer again... well worth signing up for it for a few pence a month. Lots of good stuff on there, although I struggle to find the time to watch much of it. I always do take the £1 offer, though, as it's worth it even if I watch just one thing.
