Last Film You Watched

I watched The Seven-Ups the other night, I’d not seen it before but knew of its classic car chase. The film‘s a bit of a poor man’s French Connection (Roy Schneider’s character’ similar to his role in FC) but worth a watch to anyone who like those grimy cop thrillers of the 70s.
Love this film! the chase seen is as good as the one in Bullett, maybe better

The Gray Man… I mean, do people even bother with script writing in films anymore. I like a decent action film but this film makes absolutely no sense, at all. lol

I just watched The Place Beyond the Pines last night. Really like Gosling, both Dan and Ryan.

Thought this was a brilliant film, didn't know what to expect - which I think is always the best way. Some amazingly tense scenes, and some really slick shots, especially the ones on the motorbike.

yeah, it's a little boring to be honest. don't think i'll ever rewatch it. and it has no real characters, other than old-man Deckard the rest are two-dimensional catwalk cutouts...all very samey. Gosling is the dullest actor in Hollywood. Some pretty eye-feasting cinematography, tho'. 5/10.

The original had bags of memorable characters, all very different: with individual looks & personalities. Plus the world felt more lived-in, more real. Even the plight of the replicants felt substantial. Then there's the soundtrack...
9/10.
Can't agree with you there - the plight of the replicants weighs heavily right through 2049 and Gosling's character is a great slow burn for me.

Weirdly enough your opinion on 2049 mirrors mine on the original the first time I saw it. I only watched it a couple of years before 2049 was released and was completely underwhelmed by it. Only a repeat viewing showed me how good it was.

I like that film, as for Gray Man, I think it's my least favourite Gosling film, he has a certain charm, persona, but it was lost in this one IMO

Blade Runner is scfi perfection. It’s impossible to better it and I honestly doubt it will ever be surpassed.

The first time I saw 2049, I was very disappointed.

However I realised that my mistake, was comparing it to the original and I went back to watch it again, this time without comparing it to the original and just lived it - could‘ve watched six hours of it.

I‘ve now watched it at least a dozen times and it’s a truly outstanding film.

People also need to remember, that there was no template for 2049, other than the original film, where as they had Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, as the template for the first film.
