Wow. This is good.
Like, really good.
Like, expecting another tedious franchise slog fest and getting a visceral, brutal, tense reinvigoration of the series good.
The setting is brilliant, the characters are engaging, the story is basic of course but well executed, the cinematography is gorgeous, the soundtrack is excellent, the FX are great, the Predator, actually intimidating again.
They've cast native Americans in the roles, they managed to neatly deal with the language question, and in fact there's a version also dubbed in Comanche.

Out of absolutely 'kin nowhere they've breathed life into a well dead vehicle.

Really, really, really good.

Yep it's boss

West Side Story (2021)
Spielberg

While the film techniques used have clearly advanced over the course of 60 years, this new interpretation lacks the soul that made the 1961 version one of the greatest movies ever made.

Overall there was just too many things that annoyed me in this version. The race stuff is way overplayed. They really beefed up the Spanish which, while maybe more realistic, doesn't sit well for what is an English language film. I hated the Bernado character who has none of the charm of the '61 version. And the lens flare... so much goddamn lens flare.

The 1961 version is a straight 10.
2021 version gets a 7 from me.

Prey

Really liked it. Perhaps a bit of a slow start, but once the Predator action got going it was great. Really liked the main actress as well. It's probably the second best movie of the franchise. It doesn't manage to deliver the same tension as the original of course, as it lacks the horror element, and it doesn't have nearly as memorable characters. But still a great watch. Really refreshing. Wish they showed a bit more of the gore, as it was often pretty dark/or they cut away from it. 7/10

Wow.

Didn't expect that at all.

I'll add it to the list. I dismissed it because I assumed it would be massive turd.

It really isn't mate, I mean don't get me wrong, its not perfect by any means but for a genre film from a corpse of a franchise they've really taken it in a new direction while being close to the intent/tone of the original. Its a properly well-made film as well.

Prey, as a massive Predator I couldn’t wait for this as it seemed to be going back to what made predator boss. And it didn’t not disappoint.

This should have been released in the cinema. Hopefully that tit who wrote The Predator is crying in the corner at the mess he made.

The little link to Predator 2 was an ace touch, let’s hope this reboots the frasnchise

I actually didn't mind the adrian broady one, but pleased to hear this get good reviews. I also love hearing native american languages on film, it feels really poetic

Yeah this makes me a bit sad, it would suit the money men to phase out cinemas and just compete on streaming platforms

Watched that last night as well (she went to bed and I launched that on), I’m the same I liked it. They take the most dangerous from different planets to learn from them and improve their skills, quite a good idea

The only issue I have is Broady, the character didn’t suit him.

Nope, it was Disney being spiteful.

Apparently fox had signed a deal that gives Comcast (HBOMax) exclusive streaming rights for a year after theater release.

So Disney said, nah, sod that, we'll just skip the theater release and stick it on Hulu/Disney+
