That's interesting... Didn't know that.

So then he must have opted to do the Rush Hour flicks instead with 'Mr. Nice Guy' Jackie Chan after that?

Which makes sense, because despite the fact that Jackie probably knows kung-fu moves that could kill a man in 5 touches, he's the most soft-spoken bloke that you'll ever meet, who couldn't even harm a fly, so no matter how loud or annoying Tucker got, he'd never tell him to shut it.
That's probably why they managed to get 3 films out of the whole franchise.
I guess it’s similar to what Eddie Murphy did. One of the most bankable actors around at the end of the 80’s/early 90’s but decided that he didn’t want to make “edgy” films one he started having kids. So basically started making loads of rubbish family friendly films. Not all of them were rubbish (Nutty Professor) but most were trash.

Similar story with Dave Chappelle too, I suppose.

Weed smoking comedian, with a high-pitched voice, gained tonnes of popularity with 'The Dave Chappelle Show' in the early '00's.
Made 3 seasons, then got offered something like $60 million to carry on making more. He buckled under the weight of the pressure, freaked out and disappeared.

No-one knew where he was, or if he was dead or alive! He turned up in Durban - South Africa, of all places, hiding under a rock.

It took its toll on him though, he didn't start performing again, until about 6/7 years ago, when he re-started his stand-up comedy act again.

Still funny as hell 🤣! And oddly enough, his voice has dropped a few octaves. Now that he's in his 50's he sounds more 'husky'.

He definitely didn’t give up the weed which might explain his deeper voice after decades of smoking.

I’ve seen him live twice and I do think he’s hilarious. But I have an issue with how much he punches down on trans people which seems to be a trend among a fair few stand ups these days. But it’s especially annoying with him as I don’t think he is actually a transphobe from things he has said in the past. And he’s funny enough that he doesn’t need to use it for easy comedy.

That's true... He LOVES going after Caitlyn Jenner for some reason!

Agree... Don't think he's '-phobe' anything. It's done more for shock value, I guess.

A good example is his mate Louis CK... 🤣

His humour is not for the faint-hearted.

Think it was a bit more nuanced than he simply buckled under the pressure. Pretty sure he retells it as the studio wanted him to basically be the face for their writers etc, and he didn’t like the direction it was going so preferred to walk than take the money. That in turn closed most doors to him until Q-Tip asked him on SNL to co-present with him (invited during the wake for Phife Dawg of ATCQ)
More of a ‘you’ll never work in this town again’ scenario, while the press were subsequently briefed he had a screw loose.

There’s a good line in one of his Netflix shows where talks up what she has done for trans woman etc, but then closes it with ‘can’t say she’s done much for woman drivers though’ 😂
(My explanation doesn’t quite do his delivery justice mind)

I reckon he puts it on, cos he got fed up of ppl mistaking him for Chris Rock... If there was an olympic event for ppl who get mistook for each other the most, they'd take home silver or gold.

Also TIL that Tucker was in Hanging with Mr Cooper! Used to love that show.
Friday was initially written to be the same tone as Boyz n the Hood and Menace in South Central, but they swivelled and made it more comedic.

Any idea how much he had in the bank when he walked away?

None whatsoever, but he was a pretty big star at that point through the Chappell Show and his film cameos, so I’d imagine he had enough to live a pretty comfortable life.
He played Reggie Warrington in The Nutty Professor in 1996.
He used to say this a lot...

So I doubt he was a pauper.
