Last Film You Watched

Konvoi (Eng: The Arctic Convoy, 2023)

Another Norwegian war film (though it's really just as much a drama film), and it's pretty decent. The acting is fine, the action sequences are solid, and for the most part it's a good-looking film. I'm still not super invested in any of the characters, though the Swede was pretty likeable (which is wild).

I watched it on a lousy blu-ray with zero extras, as per usual these days. Not that I would've watched the extras anyways, but I like knowing that they're there. It'd just've made it feel like they'd put some effort into the product then. But the film is solid enough. Anders Baasmo (the captain) have never looked manlier..

A weak 7/10.

Me too mate.

Vague memories as well... A young, relatively unknown Antonio Banderas was his boy toy, right?

And I also seem to remember a scene where Hanks is singing and explaining an Italian opera aria to Denzel, and it completely freaks him out? 🤔
Yes, right on both counts.

These things I remembered as well. What surprised me is that the court room scenes were shorter than I remembered. Hanks rightly got plaudits for it but Denzel was great as well.

Just watched this …. Bit disappointed really considering the cast … wouldn’t bother watching again
Might be worth a rewatch. The focus is on Stallone, and his eventual reconciling his place in the corruption taken for granted by the criminals and his eventual catharsis is one of his stronger films. It's not modern anymore, but such a collection of talent in the cast is so so rare.

The Hired Hand (1971)
The kind of western film I probably won't remember much of in a couple months time, but still a decent way to kill 90 minutes. I've never seen a western I've hated and that still rings true. It didn't really happen a lot throughout most of the film, but I was still never bored. The ending bumped my rating up from a 6 to a 7/10.

The cast was magnificent to be honest, I just thought there was so much more that they could have come out with. De Niro’s role alone… could have been so much . I also like Stallone in his own way, you know what you’re gonna get fro him, not very bright good guy 🤷‍♂️

Is it not a study in backwater corruption and the turning of a blind eye to endemic/insipid enablement? Then the redemption.
