Last Film You Watched

Its not a case of books being better, its just id you read the book first your imagination has already decided how thing look and sound so very rarely is the film going to match your vision of the story
Not to mention the amount of narrative in a book vs a film means it'll always have way more context and depth.

Wayched Nanking on Netflix a little while ago

It's a documentary about the siege of the old Chinese capital Nanking by the Japanese during WW2. Horendus brutality and completely ignored by both the allies and by the Nazis who did nothing to help German citizens trapped under Japanese rule.

Despite all this there was still some humanity to be found.

Well worth a watch.

Anyone been watching the Hollow Crown on BBC? Absolutely boss throughout, though it is a bit affected by Sophie Okonedo's Margaret being far more terrifying than Cumberbatch's Richard III.

Can't look at this woman without seeing Lotta from Charlie and Lola, which often detracts from the performance.

Son of Saul

Devastating. A holocaust film, nothing like the sweeping camera of Shindlers List. About a prisoner whose job it is to take the jewellry from the prisoners, prepare and clean the killing chambers, then he thinks he sees his son.

This is all film from what the main guy sees, all from his viewpoint. You hear the atrocities that go on, you don't see most of them. Shot with a 35mm lense, shallow focus, very claustrophobic. It's just awful. Mark Kermode sums it up better but I urge people to watch this, so powerful.
