They dont exist,I have watched hundreds as its my favourite genre but cant remember the last genuinely original one i watched

The best one that's been out in the recent past imo is - Sinister.

Slow and atmospheric, plus very disturbing without being over the top gory .

Yeah it wasnt too bad compared to most,I enjoyed the 1st Saw film as well but it seems like most decent ones are coming from Europe rather than Hollywood lately

Which is due to Hollywood not being prepared to take risks with new stuff.

There hasn't been a decent scfi horror film out for yonks either for the same reason

I was looking up new films due next year virtually all re-makes,it does seem like they are staying on safe ground,even the remakes they do such as let the right one in they just dont seem to catch the originality or edge of the original

i'd agree with that, i enjoyed the book, but the film is a classic, top class sci fi, and feels so much 'larger' than the book, for want of a superior vocabulary on my part

Think he makes it 'larger' by scaling it down. Imagine if he'd tried to include Mercerism, the film might have become a mess. Would have loved the police station stuff to have made it to the film though.
