Where are people getting their ideas about "Moneyball"? I would have at least thought some of you would have seen the movie, even if I wouldn't have expected any of you to have read the book.

I read the book. "Moneyball" was about building a talented, winning team based on specific player skills that were undervalued in the baseball market. (Like, teams will always spend big money on home run hitters, but no one was paying money for guys who were good at getting on base.) The man who ran the Oakland A's did it because the club didn't have money. It's never been a scheme to avoid spending money.

Doesn't even matter here because the man who ran the Padres while Moores owned them was hired before "Moneyball" was even created.

There's something to be said about this whole 50% of the tv-money being touted as a guarantee of pay off for a 7 year period.
Wth happens if the tv money is suddenly cut back?
What if there really is grounds for a european super league?

Tv money would disappear and their 'guarantee' would be worth less than Big Dunc. Doesn't seem like the best business sense.

And on 'Moneyball'-references, isn't that exactly what we've been doing these past few years, only the profits from player sales seem to disappear after every transfer window.

The only thing we have in common with Moneyball is that 'ball' also means 'bollocks' which is what our manager keeps spouting after every match
