I'm don't believe it's happened until they're on the pitch at Goodison with a scarf aloft each.

This will be Kenwright's legacy to Everton and Evertonians, the self proclaimed biggest Blue, handing the keys over of a once footballing powerhouse to those who he deems worthy and right to be his successor, for the good of Everton, Evertonians and the city of Liverpool.

It's looking like this is the right time, the time to make yourself be counted, to prove to the doubters you've nothing but Everton in your heart. Now I'm not one for praying but I pray for your sake Bill Kenwright, that you've got this right.

Hi all,

Heard the news tonight from the Echo, is anyone else concerned that Evertons owners seem to be putting all their eggs into one basket ? According to the Echo there are also two other potential runners, both Chinese. Not saying these are any better but shouldn't the club be exploring all possibilities before jumping in feet first ? And surely the Liverpool Echo should be pushing for this as well, they bloody would if it was LFC.
I'm pretty sure the club are well aware what any other interested parties have to offer.
If the other parties had better concrete offers they would be pursing that avenue ....simple really.

I hope you all realise that Tim Howard will now be in goal for the next decade.

To those who favour the Chinese instead of the Americans I would suggest that if we were currently talking to the Chinese you would then favour the Americans. That is not meant as a criticism but more to do with the fear of the unknown. There is nothing solid known about what is happening, apart from that it is happening.

I expect that any deal will have some leverage involved in it's structure. How much is the question. I am going to wait until we are told something solid and definite until I even begin to consider if it is a good deal.

I have seen a number of examples earlier of failed American owners. However, they all seem to have invested large sums of money in playing staff, but seemed to get the buying of players and managerial appointments all wrong.

It's just a story, who knows what the truth is?? For all we know this could have been leaked to put pressure on the Chinese groups to act.

It will play out in time.

Could be just a story, but there seems to be an awful lot of information there and the crux of it is they are very close and it can only fall down if there is a deal breaking late bump in the road occurrence happens. They must have got that information from somewhere, they would not dare to print it otherwise. The club would be right at them demanding a retraction.

The West Division Titles I'm talking about are times when they've won the division they were competing in (finished 1st, not 4th).

But fair enough, I was making the comparison as it seems a fairer indicator of the type of owner we may be getting than judging him on the failings of other American investors.
Just to make sure we are all on the same page, baseball in the USA is the one sport that's most akin to European football from an economics perspective. There is no salary cap. The Yankees and Red Sox can spend whatever they want, the only socialism there is in baseball is that for every salary dollar they spend over a certain number is subject to a "luxury tax" and redistributed to the "have-nots" which we refer to as small-market teams. Luckily for everyone involved, the Yankees have been spending money like Man U and Liverpool lately, in that they spend all this money on guaranteed contracts on old guys in decline who suck.

I, for one, don't believe that money = success in baseball anymore b/c of how free agency works in US Sports. smaller teams have proven they can win with younger guys that aren't able to cash in on massive contracts yet, and unlike in Europe, those young players can't bitch and moan and get a move to a bigger team until they've put in enough years of service. The model those successful teams in the US have is similar to what Everton and Southampton are doing. With only more money coming into the Premier League next year, Everton should be well-positioned to use their youth and they will need to hit it right on who to pay, and who to cash in on.

This has probably been asked already - but does our FFP situation mean that the club can't spend much on transfers without selling regardless of owners?

if there even are any Chinese or Americans, I think the Chinese are much more likely to fail in spectacular extravagant fashion but also much more likely (though still unlikely) to make us Man City 2.0

best case scenario for the Americans would be if they never interfered with transfers and kept the current management structure (not just Martinez, plotters) more or less in place, and spent slightly more money than we already do. they do not seem like the kind of people to a) know about our history or b)want to spend lots of money to chase it after spending lots already buying us in the first place. they are almost certainly only here for the TV money. in other words, more or less the status quo, but with Kenwright less prominent, which for some here will be enough

Admire your trusting nature am sure a lot of Liverpool fans believed this of David Moore's, the lifelong Liverpool fan and chairman at the time, who sold out to Hicks and Gillette. He is still regretting that I believe.

For the most part yeah, but we'll still have plenty to spend on players considering how crazy TV revenue has gotten.

Infrastructure doesn't count in FFP though, so any new owner could immediately plow half a billion into a new stadium, buying and/or upgrading Finch Farm, etc.

As someone has just said somewhere on here, most new owners seem to make the mistake in appointing managers rather than funding the teams. Id be quite confident in Martinez not only building us a competitive team but also in buying young players to sell on at a profit. For all his faults, hes a forward thinking manager rather than someone from the old boys club whose going to waste money on expensive 30 year olds

Did they fork out much on the [Poor language removed]? What was their issues with them? I just laughed from a distance without reading too much into it
