Everton takeover latest: John Jay Moores and Charles Noell flew into Liverpool for talks before FA Cup game
US investors had meetings in Liverpool during last weekend of January

Moores and Noell were spotted arriving at the Hilton hotel in Liverpool ONE
The American investors closing in on a takeover of Everton flew to Liverpool for secret talks with the Blues before the recent FA Cup win over Carlisle United.

The ECHO understands that John Jay Moores and Charles Noell were in the city on the weekend of January 30/31 to make progress with negotiations about their £200m bid.

Former San Diego Padres owner Moores and Baltimore-based Noell were chauffeured from Manchester airport to the Hilton hotel in Liverpool One on the Saturday.

They then held talks with Blues officials 24 hours before the FA Cup fourth round 3-0 win over Carlisle United at Brunton Park, which they did not attend.

It comes as the pair, also believed to have been shown around the club's Finch Farm training ground recently, were finishing their due diligence period on the Toffees accounts.

They are now at a stage where a deal in principle is close to being finalised to buy the majority shareholding in the club.

Everton have declined to comment.

Can't believe we missed out on the radar tracking of these two, come on blues we're slacking

My slight concern is that most Americans interested in the sacred game are only interested in the potential profit.
This might easily go one of two ways, greatness or Villa. Either way, things will not stay the same.

Fingers crossed lads.

Cant think of a a single club that has benefited from an American buyer or that has American owners that is doing well

Villa now finished
Sunderland going nowhere apart from maybe down
Palace and Bournmouth not really big enough to judge
Liverpool haven't moved on at all and the yanks seem to be doing more to alienate the fan base then anything else. Yes the spend big but they always have and with the money that club makes its no wonder, but the yanks don't seem to have done anything to move the club forward. There have been talk of a new ground for years but that didn't come off instead all they did was build a new stand, o and the first lot we're hounded out.
United going backwards although that was maybe as much to do with bad management and the resignation of Furguson but the the yellow and green scarf wearing fan base have never been happy with them.
Arsenal, all that money they make and have in the bank but when do they ever go out and buy a top world class player for big money? They really should of won the league more then they have and done better in Europe, got a great new stadium and nowt in the cabinet to show for it.

If the club believe that they have found the preferred bidders why not publish there plans before they lock up the deal? If they have nothing to hide and have the best interest of the fans in hand then why do we have to wait till after the deal is done?

Trust, Transparency, Engagement with the fanbase - nothing on show here.

Probably because that is simply not how it is done - but not being a multi millionaire big business deal type - I cant be certain.

Could also have a hint of the fact that like it or not, every fanbase has a certain amount of cockwombles within it and before you know there will be some belter setting himself on fire in front of Dixie Deans statue because the deal doesnt fit in with their own particular idea of how the world works - add in the whole social media piece where there are plenty of other belters with their best keyboard warrior pants on determined to unhinge whatever ends up in place - I can fully see why things like this are conducted in the way they are.

We will all get to know exactly what they want us to know when they want us to know it.

Until you are stumping up the £200 Million or so then I wouldnt have thought it unreasonable for that to be the case.

Innit lad.

They dont understand the game, thats the major issue.

We have already been asset stripped so its not going to be much worse. The current board haven't invested have they. Maybe we might get a couple of million more per window to spend...that's all most of us are asking. I don't get all the negativity regarding the takeover...why do people think we are going to be asset stripped and end up in the Championship? We may finally have a stadium and people with business sense that could take the club forward rather than the stagnation that has swallowed us up under the current board.

I'm not negative but we haven't been asset stripped in the true sense have we. We've sold to progress. True asset stripping would be if new owners came in and sold all our young talented players and replaced them with journey men for a fraction of the cost and the money we banked ended up in the owners pockets

My major concern, and that of many Evertonians, is leaving the choice of successor completely in the hands of the directors. Yes they own the majority of the shares and they can of course dispose of these shares as they see fit, but as directors they have a legal responsibility to act in the best interests of the company, ahead of any self interest.

Well no, assets are not really the players. Players are not listed assets, we don't have any...they have been sold off.

Would have gone over very well for the club to publish the details of the Byram transfer after they had reached an agreement...
