I picked 16-17th but yesterday had me more concerned. It really looks we are not going to be able to sign any players that will make an immediate difference. I will be surprised if there is another team that starts the season with a worse balanced squad. I don’t see where the goals are going to come from. DCL is a 6 yard box striker. Without quality service he offers little. Gray and Gordon are not clinical wide forwards/wingers. Iwobi for all his improvement will only be good for 3 or 4 goals. Ali is shot to pieces. We don’t even have a good set piece taker to utilise DCL, Tarks and Mina (when fit) in the air. Our fullbacks are week offensively. Our whole team are poor in possession and struggle to do the basics well. If we don’t get this recruitment right in the next couple of weeks I think we might finally drop

It will likely be a relegation battle unless the team can be further strengthened

The attack is seriously depleted with the losses of Richarlison, James, Sigurdsson and Digne - creativity and goals will need to come from somewhere to stay up....

I would love, love, love to be wrong, but I can not see any realistic scenario where we are not in a relegation battle. We survived by the skin of our teeth last season and currently have a weaker starting lineup. Logically, how is that going to go well?

Can only hope we get 2 or 3 decent additions in asap, and it might change things. But I don't see us getting in the required quality to significantly improve what we have.

The only good news I can foresee is that all bar Pickford (and maybe DCL) will be having a nice break during the World Cup:

Rough estimate of representation by PL club at the World Cup (low figure is Probables, high figure includes Possibles)

Chelsea 14-16
Man City 14-15
Man Utd 11-16
Spurs 11-14
Arsenal 9-12
RS 9-10
West Ham 7-9
Leicester 7-8
Leeds 6-8
Wolves 4-8
Villa 4-7
Brighton 4-6
Bournemouth 4-4
Forest 4-4
Newcastle 4-4
Fulham 4-4
Palace 3-6
Brentford 3-4
Everton 1-2*
Southampton 1-2

* ok it might be 2 but the other one plays for Everton (Chile)

Of course you could cite this as a strong reason why we are rubbish!

18th...we are doomed, DOOMED I say!

But realistically, we are going to be the major surprise of this and any other season and Super Frankie will be named Manager of the Season

'Another very large Scotch on the rocks, please, Barman!'

I do quite understand it but it looks good...or bad!?

I feel we must start off with the same passion and belief as we finished last season.

If we can do that, and perhaps add a couple more players in much needed positions

Then a mid table finish is possible.

However, a lily livered start with heads going down early doors will only lead to another nightmare relegation battle I fear.

13-15th for me. This team is going to be very average and very boring. They’ll do just enough to stay up comfortably, thanks to Frank, imo. He’s not going to get much help from this current squad and the board. I’m afraid they’ll do him in after the end of the season or midway through next. They will then promise us better times are ahead, hire a new manager that most of us are disappointed with. Rinse and repeat. UTFT

The saddest thing of course about all this is just a few years ago we very realistically had top 4/6 aspirations, now we're already bracing ourselves for a relegation fight, with relegation very possible. Utterly infuriating how far we've regressed.

I can not see how we finish below Bournemouth. I look at Fulham and Nottingham Forest making interesting signings, also Leeds, Brentford and those who finished around us last season, and I think they are the teams we will be competing with again, unless we can add 3-4 quality players in the next few weeks.
