Missed the part where he's a very good DM eh?
No I was agreeing with part of your post but I don't agree with that bit. He's fine, a decent PL player who does a job. He's not a 'very good DM' in my opinion, he's the sort of player who we can bring in and will be steady and make us a bit more difficult to break down but he's not the type of player who either makes us massively better in the short term or is going to be a building block to getting much better in the long term. I said elsewhere, beggars can't be choosers and I'd take this sort of signing to stave off the threat of relegation but that's all it does really, you don't progress as a club making many signings like him.

Right now, I don’t think we are in a position to do much else. Stabilisation, and avoid relegation.

Need to hang on for another season.

Solid player, I like him a lot. His energy and attitude are top notch. But we should be buying this type of player from abroad, not from a PL team. Maybe he really likes Thelwell and we can get him for cheap due to his contract, but reports say Wolves have the option to extend. So why would they sell him for cheap this summer if that's the case?

Cos he doesn't want to extend?

Yeah I think he might get sold, I guess the unsaid part of my post is that I don't think it'd be smart to pay more than 10m for him, but if he has two years left they could sell him for that much next summer once they extend his deal for another season. So for me it just doesn't line up. They don't have to sell him for a bargain and are very unlikely to do so to another PL team. Which is why I think we should be looking elsewhere.

And as I said, if that's the case then I can deal with that. We have to be careful though, just kicking the can down the road isn't a good strategy, we'll never get out of this situation if we keep adding more and more average players with limited resale value to the squad. We've got to change the MO because otherwise we're just going to continue down this path until we finally run out of road and go down.

I'm not trying to convince anyone about Dier , its my opinion.

McGuire played 37 games for Man utd ....i dont rate him either.

Dier has been there for eight years and consistently started the majority of league games under five different managers. The season where he played the least games was due to an injury keeping him out for two months.

These managers must all be missing something!
