Honestly though if Leeds happen to smash us by three or four goals this will be the first nail in the coffin for Lampard. Liverpool and Arsenal after this, could very, very easily be two points from 18 and rock bottom of the division. Hard to pick up confidence from there and the board may, rightly or wrongly, decide to act.

For me it's a must not lose match already. And really it needs to be a win. We need to go back to the centre back pairing of Keane and Holgate for me because the current backline is conceding far too many chances.

If we're losing to Leeds, having failed to beat Brentford and Nottingham Forest, and lost at Aston Villa, well, we're in big trouble already. These are not among the more difficult fixtures in the current Premier League. We can talk about time all we like, but we all know that if we lose tomorrow and follow up with Moshiri's time-honoured "expected defeats" at Liverpool and Arsenal, well, Lampard is right on course for November oblivion. It might not be right, but it is reality.

If we can get at least a point here, I think we can point to being competitive in every one of our matches this season - so that's a start. A win would be a huge boost. A defeat, though, will make life difficult. Telling people "not to panic" is a bit like newspaper columnists telling European citizens not to allow themselves to be divided by Putin's energy blackmail while the cost of heating their homes rockets to unaffordable levels. In other words, it's all very good pontificating from on high, but governments need to protect their people with big financial transfers and our board needs to do something similar. Piety doesn't cut it. The manager, too, cannot be seen to refuse a huge bid for Anthony Gordon when the proceeds could be used to strengthen the side and his chances of keeping his job.

So, time, yes. But that needs to be earned. That's the nature of the job. There is always pressure on an Everton manager. It comes with the territory. No reason why we cannot win at Leeds tomorrow. I'm sorry, but there is no way this can be written off as any kind of "expected defeat" - especially as a striker has now been bought. Time to start putting more away points on the board.
In hindsight our defeats to Chelsea and Villa may be very poor results. I'm still unsure how good Chelsea are this season, I suspect they're not particularly good. Quite a number of middling teams will take points off them away from the Bridge this season.

Agree, it's been too many players thrown out there too soon, we got very lucky yesterday, Tuesday won't be so easy

FL said one option is Mykolenko as a left central defender. Think he has played in this position for Ukraine.
We meet a very energic and high-pressure team, our boys must have fresh legs !

My team against Leeds:

Pickford
Coady - Tarkowski - Mykolenko

Patterson--Onana - Iowbi----Vinagre

Gray-------------------------------Gordon

Maupay

The ball seems to constantly break to the opposition on the edge of our area. We have no sweeping cover there, a foot in, a pain in the backside screening, a nippy little antagonizer to then lay the ball out wide on the break etc.
Loading our box with bodies seems to have simply added to the confusion and the deflection possibilities.
We've played two at home, its not panic stations. weve had a chocker run of fixtures in a 3 week period, its very like us to lose our only striker in this time.
A couple of wins on the bounce and we'd be top half. Leeds aways no fairytale, but we get to the end of the window and weigh up from there. we might benefit from dropping Gray or Gordon and putting an extra man in CM. we desperately need more legs, more cover, and more brains in midfield.
Hard(er) to beat will cover the cracks for now, and panic wont do that. Hate to say it but maybe focusing on a set piece and closing up shop is about the best we can do for now...
