Can you genuinely tell me we have ever thought about a title challenge in the past 20 years? Cos I tell you, after this season, I am now thinking we could do it. And that is thanks to Leicester.

THIS^^^

I've genuinely been getting very disillusioned with football lately, with the idea that we have to clamour for some billionaire investor to give us a chance of competing. In fact, if becoming like Chelsea or City and buying success is what it takes, it's not really successs at all. I'd give up my season ticket at that point.

The Leicester situation means that I can believe we CAN bring back 1985 without selling our collective sould to do it. And that doesn't mean we're 'inspired' by Leicester - it just means that I can have some hope that the game I fell in love with all those years ago is still in there, somewhere.

And that's 'bad for Everton'? Rubbish. If you think that's bad for us, you're merely justifying your own dislike and prejudice to yourself. You're sure as hell not justifying it to ME...

Leicester are providing inspiration that in a league thoroughly dominated by extremely wealthy clubs, team spirit can overcome. I genuinely believe we (and many other clubs) have got into such a rut that we believe success is 4th spot. Leicester have provided a wake up call that real success is winning the thing, not scraping 4th.

Lol @ klaxon. You're better than that.

I really wish I lived in your world where you feel this makes Everton more likely to win the league next season. It must be boss to think that.

Sadly in my world I see another team overtaking Everton. Remember I've consistently said they deserve to win it. They've played the best football by a country mile. I just don't want them to as it's another team overtaking us.

The day we think we're too above another team to take inspiration from them, that's a sad day.

Sadly I disagree. We shouldn't need to. We should be up there without the need for someone else to kick us into action.

I'm not trying to justify anything to anyone. I have my opinion and you have yours. I won't be forcing it on anyone either. I can fully understand the other side too.

But if you can't see why this might be bad for Everton that's a bit of a worry.

I totally get your reasoning ijjy but I don't think if we win it this year we're automatically ahead of you. Yes we will be able to atttact a higher calibre of players than before but we're still not gonna be doing a Man City and spend £150m in a window. Think we'll largely keep the squad we have and buy 3 or 4 quality additions. If we finish top 4 next season then your worries become a bit more real

It could go either way I reckon mate. I am being overly negative about it, and it's not only if you win it, top 4 (which is basically nailed for you I think now), could do it too. We've seen City overtake us (for obvious £$£$£$$££$ reasons), and it's slowly dawning on me that Spurs are doing it a little slower, and you guys seem very very business savvy so could see you being up there a good while. It's just a worry. And one I can't get rid of.

Added to that, the usual established big boys will be livid by it all.

I do mean it when I say you deserve to win it though. Most consistent team by miles.

That's not the impression I got in fairness since the armstrong fallout, there were a huge amount of people complicit

Technically, it is up to the cyclist as to whether he doped. I know that there were a few in the peloton who didn't dope, but they were a small minority. Cyclists have careers, and often aren't even paid enough to support a family. High performance wins contracts, and contracts = money. Many who doped did it simply to not get dropped. In the late 90s, they estimate that all of the Top 20 took drugs. So essentially, it was a choice, but if you wanted a career, you had to dope.

Excellent article in yesterday's Times by Matthew Syed on the team ethic of Leicester demonstrating that whilst the money teams have the better players, they tend of not work at 100% for all of the game (cf Yaya Toure for a prime example) whereas Leicester players play for each other.

I also think Ranieri deserves a massive amount of credit. He must be a superb man manager and shows how useless Chelsea are at getting the best out of their managers.

If nothing else, Raneiri has proven me wrong that he is in fact a decent manager haha

Still think mncini is a massively over rated bloke who only takes advantage of good situations.

Think Peter crouch would be an excellent addition to leicester

I expected Leicester to slip down the league after christmas but they proved me wrong.Leicester are top of the league because they deserve to be there. They have a manager that get's the best out of his resources and they have a great spirit and unity. Both Leicester and Spurs have really put us to shame this year. This was the season for a surprise packet to emerge and challenge for the title and both Leicester and Spurs have stepped up to the plate.Meanwhile some of the pro board and pro Martinez cheerleaders on here are wetting themselves with excitement over being 8th place in the league and still being in contention with a chance of 5th place.lol

But they've already "overtaken us" by that theory, there's no way they're going to finish outside the top 4 is there? 11 points clear of a pretty average Man Utd in 5th and they've just been to City and thrashed them. Their place in the top 4 is already sealed, so we might as well hope they win it from this point. I for one would love them too, it'd be hilarious as well as a breath of fresh air for the league. Chances are they wouldn't come anywhere near repeating the feat next season
