Leicester postponement

The whole situation is a farce. I’ve got a season ticket but live in London.

Was disappointed to see Newcastle was postponed as I generally struggle to make mid-week matches but was back for Christmas. I’ve delayed heading back to London to watch the Leicester game on Tuesday, and 48 hours later I still don’t know whether it is going ahead. And that is after Leicester just demolished Watford yesterday, but are seemingly incapable of playing on Tuesday.

It’s really not fair on supporters. I could understand calling it off if it’s because of a genuine covid outbreak in the camp but not because of injuries and the Africa Cup of Nations. It’s an absolute joke.

We need the game played but we can't whinge if it is called off because we were saying the other week how great it was to have games called off because it meant we could get players back from injury.

Yes Lou, but that was a positive by-product of games being called off for us.

EFC never initiated any of these postponements nor did I see anyone on here demand the club should push for them.

Believe Leicester have 11 fit first team players, absences due to AFCON and injury, rather than COVID. Think the limit in the EPL is 13 whereas for the FA Cup you have to call on reserves.
I’ve had this discussion with another Leicester fan in here this morning. There’s no way there a Premier league rule, that allows you to cancel a game because of injuries. Maybe there’s a rule that’s has come in because of covid. But injuries have been part and parcel of football for a hundred years. And only Middlesbrough 25yrs ago have failed to fulfil a fixture and lost the points because of it

Remember Middlesboro having serious injury problems and wanted a game postponed v Blackburn the year they got relegated. They were told to field a team and couldn't so were docked points I think.
Yes 25yrs ago and can’t remember another situation this has happened. But apparently it’s a new rule according to all the Leicester fans on here today

According to the Premier League handbook -
The league's board can "only permit the rearrangement or postponement of a league match in exceptional circumstances".
" Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis for each club, and there are no set rules that will determine whether or not a fixture will get cancelled."

I mean that's not open to abuse is it? (n)

But how long has that rule been in place, because it’s never been abused before . Only happening now, because clubs are playing the covid card

Exactly
Basically there are no rules.
If a club applies for a postponement they need to prove "exceptional circumstances"
If having players away on international duty is allowed to count as 'exceptional' then it is setting a very dangerous precedent that certainly will be used and abused in the future.

I don’t know if the positions of the players are taken into account? You could have enough players but no players in a certain position. Leicester only having 1 defender left could be part of their appeal.

Personally I’m not too bothered if the match is postponed or not as we looked sluggish yesterday and we had the extra time - but to be fair to those who are going they must not leave the decision too late.
