the worst part is that it's not even a surprise.

Panic rules these days.
You can blame the PL / FA for that. The financial implications of relegation are so severe that clubs simply cannot afford to give managers unlimited time to reverse a decline. They have to (try to) nip it in the bud and see if someone else can keep them up.

When relegation was just something that happened, managers could expect a chance at getting promotion again.

In an alternate reality somewhere Ranieri stays, Leicester go on to beat Sevilla 1-0 and then dispose of everyone else in the CL to win it and also stay up by 1 point. Leicester secede from the UK and Claudio is made king.

My 55 billion pound bet goes up in smoke... :p

That's as likely a team who just evaded relegation winning the Premier League by 10 Pts.

That don't count. Football only properly started with the Prem
Only small town clubs with a totally insignificant history and tradition believe this line. Football started in 1888 good and proper. Ask any Everton, Preston, Villa fan to name but three clubs. Contrary to popular belief, English football did NOT start in 1992.

"Mostly I have to thank Leicester City Football Club. The adventure was amazing and will live with me forever," Ranieri said.

"Thank you to all the journalists and the media who came with us and enjoyed reporting on the greatest story in football.

"My heartfelt thanks to everybody at the club, all the players, the staff, everybody who was there and was part of what we achieved. But mostly to the supporters. You took me into your hearts from day one and loved me. I love you too. No one can ever take away what we together have achieved, and I hope you think about it and smile every day the way I always will.

"It was a time of wonderfulness and happiness that I will never forget. It's been a pleasure and an honour to be a champion with all of you."

He was similarly gracious when Abramovic binned him at Chelsea. So happy he leaves with dignity, a class act.
