Baines would have walked into any top 4 club bar Arsenal in his pomp, turned down Utd twice.

Stats mean nothing to me though so its a waste of time with me.

Cole played ahead of him because he was a better all round player and Baines was fairly average defensively. That doesn't mean Baines was bad, far from it, he was great for us, but not having him as the best in Europe at the time.

Cole was a better athlete, got up and down faster, and had better defending stats than Baines because of that, not saying Baines couldn't defend because he was a good defender.

But when you look at the whole package, in an age were full backs were being transformed into basically wingers, expected to attack as much as defend, Baines brought more to the table than Cole without doubt and his goals, assists and freekicking trounce Coles stats over his career.

I still don't do stats... football is not a stat based game.

The only stat that matters is the final result. Cole was a winner.
 


Solid and a good servant. Dinge just isn't right the past few games. He has been carrying knocks I'm sure. Needs some R&R. Baines will keep us going running up the table.
