If only we were able to find a left winger who works as well with Digne as Pienaar did with Baines. They were just perfect down that flank. Bernard deceived me for a while and had me thinking he could be the answer, but he's proven himself to be a little wimp who can't stand up the even players who are around 10 stone. Pienaar himself wasn't much bigger or bulkier than Bernard!

Baines partnership with Pienar was world class. Baines developed the technique of underlapping Pienar and heading directly for goal through the space created by Pienar. It was really hard to defend and very effective.
in his pomp he was truly tremendous.
