2017/18 Leighton Baines

I'd get Bertrand in before anyone else does. Mind you, if you still have no manager in place.....

I do like Bertrand, but he's 29 - so would those saying Baines is too old want us to be signing a 29-yr-old left-back?

I'd rather go for somebody like Tierney - who is quality and has bags of potential to get even better - and keep Baines at the club as a rotation option.

Anyway, the bloke's on holiday and this is a rumour from the s**.

I would be sad to see Baines go if he does, great servant to our club over the years, stayed when he clearly had his chance to go! A true blue!

But I do think he has seen his best days!

yeh, get rid of our two best defenders from last season

I get Baines and Jags are both past their best, but there's 10 players - at least - who need binning off before them.
Because that’s how football works, isn’t it? We need to improve on them. Doesn’t matter if they were on best defenders or not, not that it says much Zac they’re both going to be another year older and they’re both poor players now.

Yes, we need to improve on them.

But that doesn't mean you have to get rid, because we actually have to be shipping other players out before them.

In regards to Baines, he's the only senior left-back at the club. We need another one as it stands. If he goes we need two. The sensible option is to get a younger player in to become the starter, while Baines is a rotation option. If, by January, Baines wants more games and the younger signing is settled, then let him go.

In regards to Jagielka, there are two CBs who we need to be punting before him - Williams and Funes Mori. Jagielka was our best defender last season by a mile (not hard, like), and should be kept on as our fourth choice and club captain. That means brining in one quality CB to partner Keane (or Holgate), while binning off two bang average/not arsed ones in Funes and Williams.

I think your opinions of them two players is blinkered by their past. There is no point in keeping two high earners around who aren’t good enough. It makes zero sense. Free transfers for them two, Rooney, Martina and Williams.
