It's not at all.

I'm simply not advocating the sale of either Jagielka or Baines over the sales of Martina, Williams and Funes.

And as the last thing we need is half a defence all settling in to a new club at once, I'd rather have Jagielka and Baines as the back up options and put the money towards a top quality CB and top quality LB.

That's the thing for me. We can get another season out of Jagielka as 4th choice. We won't attract any transfer fee for him. He can do a job for 12 months whilst Feeney goes out on loan, and hopefully comes back ready to take Jag's place in the squad.

Funes Mori on the other hand will attract a decent fee from Spain or Italy where his game is probably better suited, and this can go towards the cost of the incoming CB.

They’re on huge wages and are not good enough to be starting and miss huge chunks of the season because they can’t recover from injuries. It makes no sense to be keeping them on. None at all.

Sentimentality is the only way they stay beyond this season and that is something I hope Brands will rid us of.

Once they were great, now they’re two failed leeches on the club’s wage bill who are trying to milk the club for all its worth thinking they can carry on picking up big wages on their names alone.

If we get two centre-backs in, keeping Keane and Holgate, then sell Jags.

Jagielka is better than Funes or Williams. Both of those should be binned off before Jags. We don't need 5 CBs with no Europe, so (New CB), Keane, Holgate and Jagielka would be a good batch of cb's to head into the season with.

Baines is our only left-back. He shouldn't be a starter but should be a rotation option for the new left-back, which will give said signing time to settle in, and it allows for injuries/loss of form, knowing we've got two good options. Baines should have been playing that role for the past two seasons but because of ineptness last summer and january (and lack of foresight before that) he has been first choice whenever fit.

It's not sentimentality. It's simply a case of these two players been better than other players in their position that need to go first.

You’re going on the assumption that we won’t be addressing our biggest area of concern this summer, of course we will. We can’t pass up opportunities to be getting rid of high-earning players who contribute very little.
