2017/18 Leighton Baines

If he's had an offer and wants to go then it makes it an easier option to let him go. Surely we have been looking for a replacement left back for a while and if he goes there is now the promise of guaranteed game time.

I will remain a fan of Baines whatever he does. A good servant who on his day was as good as any left back out there, and being embroiled in the downfall of Martinez shows that he cared about what was happening in the club.

If we sign two left backs, then ok

But otherwise, we've spent most of this last season hampered by our ridiculous failure to sign left back cover, we can't sell the only actual left back in the whole squad without replacing him properly

FWIW I'd rather keep him and add another left back this summer, then let him leave next summer if he wants to go

Been a great servant, so I wouldn't begrudge him a year or two in America if he fancies it

Is this the same Baines who missed out on a World Cup because of homesickness? The notion he'd want to move even 5 minutes from his front doorstep, let alone 1000s of miles across the Atlantic

He's not going anywhere
His second best mate lives out there now and is trying to get Baines and bbf Miles Kane to join him. There's legs in this. Great live music scene in LA which is more important to Baines than footie.

If he can get a deal I reckon he'll go. Deffo.

You’re going on the assumption that we won’t be addressing our biggest area of concern this summer, of course we will. We can’t pass up opportunities to be getting rid of high-earning players who contribute very little.
You should know better than to make assumptions where Everton are concerned.

I like him. I'll be sad if he goes but we do need to be thinking about a replacement for 2019/20 if he stays next season.

We will address it - but I don't think we'll be making four signings.

I think the sensible option would be an excellent first-choice LB and a quality centre-half. That should, really, cost us no less than £50m unless we're picking up a bargain.

That'd be, for me, 2 in with 3 out.

Williams, Martina, Funes Mori going. The two new signings coming in.

Four centre-halves, with Jags as fourth choice. Two LBs, with Baines as back-up.

Presumably Pennington is expected to play some part after signing his new deal.

I'm not convinced on that tbf. I'm sure the new manager will take a look but I can see him being back out on loan.

He should be, anyway. I'd rather have an old Jags for one final season than Pennington tbh.

Wonderful servant, top Blue also but we are now in need of a younger version.

A Left Back capable of overlapping at every occasion & delivering quality to what I hope will be two very capable Centre Forwards.

The game has moved on in the last ten years, breaking at speed hurts teams. Our slow, deliberate & cautious approach in our attacking play only allows the opposition to set & break up our possession in the last third.

There are other ways to gain results as Burnley have shown using two battering rams up top from three big units in Vokes, Barnes & Wood but the football can be Industrial at best over 38 games (that said we made them look like Brazil ‘70 at GP earlier this season).

I think Silva likes the high press with quick ball carrying technical players. So long as Brands is on the same page, we might finally get to witness some real attacking intent & flair in the coming months & years ahead.

Going back to LB3, he’s up there with Cahill & Arteta as a guy who’s very difficult to dislike. Deserved a piece of Silverware for his loyalty but sadly it looks destined to be elsewhere now.

Good luck Bainsey lad, we are going to miss your Indy haircuts, guitar rifts & super tight shorts that don’t fit you.

Wouldn't let him go. We need a new left back whose first team ready and baines as back up/rotation. Ideally we have robinson around first team squad this season, and if he's good enough let baines go next summer.

One possibility is baines knows who we are targeting and knows game time could reduce dramatically. Reckon he'd be into the idea of MLS. It's laid back over there and he can get Immerse himself into all the pop culture, he's probably into all the film and music stuff.

Hard to find many being adverse to this, so long a first choice left back is found, and a decent back up. Loyal servant, champion footballer and probably still our best on the ball. But he is losing his legs and MLS would serve him well.
