Cuco Martina with a back 3, won't be the end of the world. Hopefully Koeman avoids playing him 3 times a week. 3 times a fortnight, should be it for Bainesy.

I'd imagine he'll get his rests in the League Cup and the odd European game. For me, I think he'll still play the vast majority of matches. Hope his body can hack it.

Shouldn't feature in Europe at all. EL at home and the league. Shouldn't need to get on a plane. Or we will risk injury or he will be absolutely jaded to the detriment of the team. Koeman needs to get creative and show his worth.

I rate Baines highly even as he is aging, but not playing twice a week.

I personally think he's a shadow of the player he was 3/4 years ago. Luckily for him he's still decent enough to get a game in the starting XI.

It's not the easiest European group we could have got, which I think means he'll end up playing more often than we'd like him too. As you say though, hopefully Koeman has a plan to deal with this.

Many questions raised after the trasfer window has been slammed shut .
Should Brendan Galloway be recalled from loan ? Left back is not his natural position and he needs the playing time that Sunderland might offer him this year , but which player is adequete cover for Leighton Baines ? Can Martina actually use both feet effectivelly in the pitch to play as a LB?
I guess Garbutt isn't loaned-out too . What's the situation with him ? He is 24 now and didn't leave in this window so I don't think he will have more chances and he will be out of here sonner or later. RK doesn't rate him highly enough as he never used him in the friendlies .

ps. I don't think we can recall loanees out of the transfer window from this year and on as the transfer and loan window close at the same time after the new FIFA regulations.

He's going to have quite the busy workload until at least January. I assume the thinking is should we need it Martina fills in at left back.

25-27 games to play before January (depending on Cup progress). At least he is out of the national side though.
