I don't think anyone means literally the most basic human needs do they?
In the context of today's lifestyles it's not a Pot Noodle and a tent, it's a roof over your head and food on the table and the dignity of being able to provide for yourself and your family.

Having those basic requirements fulfilled is essential, everything that comes after that should be a personal choice.

Well not really. Were talking about basic needs, and we don't need a fillet steak to survive, we can do so on bread and water if we have to. Surely a fillet steak is greed, when all you need is bread and water.

Hence why humans have evolved from spear throwing or tending to the grain fields. Emotional needs are just as important as Survival. That's just the way us humans are.
