Osman is a substitute.

And as seen at West Brom the other week, quite a good one when used right.

We have sooooo many better options to start though.

Either that mate or sent out with instructions that hes off on the 50/55minute mark so hes off before hes goosed, bit like other veteran players have been used by other teams

I believe it was Cahill that went to Moyes and said he felt he wasn't up to his previous standards and fancied a change of pace.

Osman has been off the pace for years. (He was only ever 'on it' in flashes but that's hardly the point.

I will kick the cat if I ever have to see that [Poor language removed] little shimmy he does when facing a defender, it invariably ends up with the defender waltzing off with the ball laughing.

...I think the comparison is a bit unfair. Cahill's game was lots about combat and effort, he never took a step back. An unbelievable pro, that approach was always going to take its toll on a frame smaller than most opponents. Osman on the other hand has never been combative or pacey. Osman is a clever footballer and that remains the case. I'm not suggesting Osman starts but we need a squad and for the time being he still has something to offer.

It's a fair point.

My Osman fume tails off 48 hours after each start he makes and I become a little more reasoned.

(Not much like)

I don't actually think it was a bad move to start him against crystal palace, we were always going to be trying to break down a defence sitting back and his passing is useful in that situation. Just think it was a massive mistake keeping him on for the full 90 although maybe Howard shipping two goals altered Roberto's plans.

As my worry with Silvan, Leon has made the same mistkae at home for the past 2 seasons now and cost us a game by not moving with the ball and being easily dispossessed leading straight to a goal. The worse thing this year was that he didnt even sprint after him to win the ball back, just let him waltz over and kill the game off.

Osman has always had a fan in me for years. Thought he was very underated considering he was never played in his best position. Now he is starting to really look like the only thing stopping him playing in the championship is the fact he is home grown.

His performances have dropped and i worry that the longer Barkley is out the more chances he has to play on cruise control and pretty much not contribute to the game. The lad has ability and can make a difference in short bursts, no doubting that. But apart from the pass leading to the goal what contributing did he make on sunday?

Leon Osman insists he does not want to become typecast as an Everton FC super-sub. The veteran midfielder has increasingly had to be content with a place on the bench for the Blues over the last 12 months, although he was the only player to appear in every Premier League game last term.

Osman, 33, says he will accept whatever role Roberto Martinez asks of him, but admits he would love to get more chances to influence games from the start. He said: “I actually want to play more. I’ve been on the bench for almost every game and in some I haven’t been used which I’ve been disappointed about. “But that’s just who I am – I want to be on the pitch playing football.

“I’m available and if the manager chooses to use me I’ll be delighted. It’s his call and I’ll make myself available as long as I can.“You don’t want to be constantly used as a sub but we’ve got a big squad at the moment and some good players.
“Saying that we have a lot of games and the manager tells us we’ll all get our time throughout the season so hopefully I get a few more minutes on the pitch.

“But if it’s not to be the case and I’m to get 15 or 20 minutes at the end of every game then I will always do it for this football club.”
