slow in more ways than pace. he dallies on the ball a bit too much and is slow to react to a player creeping up on him hence why he's always been a terrible centre mid. i've always said i'm fine with him in an attacking role though, like i said when he was out, he's the only one in our squad, now that pienaar's dead, that actually moves into space.
Agree but probably his best game this season was in that role against West Ham.

Funny old game football.

For me his best position is just behind the front man/front two,his quick feet/footballing brain and ability to unlock a defence with a pass to play someone in comes to the fore, the pity is through various circumstances he is never really able to take up that role.

Agreed ,use his footballing brain against teams that park the bus, maybe putting on the bench against sides who will push us back.

Prossibly...maybe we can keep him on to teach all the smaller players how to protect the ball. Tidy little player when on his game.
Great little player mate, when he first arrived I thought he didn't have a chance, too small, but he certainly grew into his role, his partnership with Baines when both were on song was fantastic at times, also I don't think Bainseyhas been the same since he's lost the protection Stevie P would give him.

I'm not sure it's so much Pienaar's absence as it is how we get up the field now...Baines now slows down and passes around the same point where he used to start bombing up, at least when we're playing out from the back in a typical manner. There's virtually no interplay on the wings anymore between the halfway line and the top of the box.

If he was tanned with long black hair and called Lionel Guzman you'd all wank off him

Hardly.

He's playing very well since coming back, slotted into gaps where nobody else seemed to want to.

But he's not a player that will further our club. Saying that, I'm not sure what our targets are anymore, Champions League seems a fantasy after this season.

Nah, not always. Has been very good there in the past.

Always been a terrible winger, mind. His position is the number 10 though and we have like 20 players who can play that better.

but everyone rightly still wants us to buy a playmaker for that role in the summer haha. i do too, but if we can get two good goalscoring wingers as well as a good second striker (i liked austin's link up play again today) then we possibly wouldn't need one.
