Personally I'm not happy that he's started all 6 league games and play so many minutes.

He has no goals and no assists so far, and doesn't really offer as much goal threat that a player in his position should these days, and you can see our play slow down when the ball goes.

Still think he's a good squad player, but being a first choice starter highlights that we can still improve the squad.

Hi everyone,

Bear with me - I am a Derby fan first and foremost. Everton are one of my 'second' clubs - brought the yellow away shirt for a tenner and mainly because of Leon Osman.

I make no excuses for that. I don't mind the abuse towards him if it meant him coming back to Pride Park where he is still firmly a fans favourite.

I also write for a 'here is the city' and did an article on it..

'osman injury reaction: 'result' 'best news of the season' - unfair?' is the title, give it a look (can't post links)

Please let me know what you think.

My point behind it is that a 'club men' should be respected, even if they aren't playing well. I'd always pull to support a player like Osman, over a clear mercenary regardless of if they're playing well or not.

Just thought I'd post on here anyway.

Thanks.

respected yeah, picked no, hes grim

Must admit, I am quite shocked by the response.

I didn't know he was doing so badly, just how poor is he playing? like 'he would cut it in the championship, poor' or 'he has completely lost it, poor?'

if it's the former send him our way, although saying that we have a carbon copy of Osman in Bryson who has managed 9 assists and 6 goals already this season, but if I was being greedy I would still take him off your hands, without a doubt.

He would look ordinary in a championship team but could do a job - for a team who are trying to get into europe he's just not good enough.

He'd be good in the championship although the lightweight factor would still be a problem there. Anyway he has been poor but not as woeful as the comments on here would make you think. For me he's still a decent squad member, I just don't want to see him being picked ahead of ..well pretty much anyone but Heitinga.

others have mentioned it- but what it boils down to is this:
being a 'club man' should not ever guarantee you a starting position
for the past so many years we had to endure that with Neville (not an Evertonian but captain) and even if the stats are more favorable (win% i understand is quite good w Ossie vs without) it does him not benefit.
He doesn't get motivated to improve his standard of play (which has distinctly dropped) and it holds back others who could come in (at this point any of Deulofeu Naismith etc)
Furthermore it just gives the fans a scapegoat. Every year the fans need one. Take Ossie out of the limelight and the fans will have nothing to attack him with- even appreciation for Naismith is growing.
If Ossie is a club man then, like Hibbo, he won't mind being a squad-member. He has the ability- but he's certainly not showing it at the moment. If he can pick himself up then people won't be so critical of him.

My view on this is that Osman's best position, and only position ATM where he is of a required quality is behind the striker, but with Barkley about now, he will not see this spot again for the rest of his career. His body is catching up with him and this leaves him unnaffective in any deeper roles or out wide. I would say though, I believe he has a place on the bench as Barkley's cover, and top guy, top evertonian, top attitude, good to have around the club.
