Theo Janssen (A former Twente player) was involved in a drunk driving accident a few years ago that left a good friend of his (and also former pro goalkeeper) Kevin Moeliker in a coma. Twente suspended Janssen for two months and Moeliker needed more than 2 years to sort of recover.

Johan Derksen said that Twente wanted to sell Fer because the Theo Janssen situation caused a lot of stress to the club and sponsors cancelled contracts. Derksen also said that the Fer situation is worse than the Janssen situation.
