I have never seen him play and I don't like to over hype players, but if he's local, after today's performance we should definitely give him a 5 year contract at £120k a week because he's the best I've ever seen in my life. Or brands should walk if kenwright had any balls.
He’s not a local, signed from Newcastle a few years ago for around 6M

I originally thought he should go out on loan but if he does I think he might miss an opportunity. In Martinez last season Ledson and Walsh went on loan and during that time an opportunity arose which Davies kind of took. It meant they ultimately had to leave to get opportunities as Davies had done enough to jump ahead if them in the queue. The same might happen to Gibson he might go out on loan and come back to find he is behind Branthwaite in the pecking order. At the moment I would say he's just ahead.

I don’t mean it in that way. I just mean the first time Branthwaite came on it was almost like “wow this kid doesn’t look out of place at all”... whereas Gibson looks average to me even against today’s opposition. He isn’t physically imposing, he isn’t particularly quick. But I know he was highly rated when we got him so he must have something about him.
Branthwaite gave a free kick away then poorly marked for the goal with his first touches, then did nothing spectacular the rest of his debut? Better the second match, granted.

Looks like Mina isnt ready yet and Holgate has the toe injury. Would make sense for Gibson to stick around until at least the window closes.

Although the main transfer window closes on 5th October, the domestic window between EPL and premier league is until 16th October.

I would keep Gibson in the squad learning. Then if the decision is made to send him on loan it should be to the championship around that 16th October deadline.

The window opens again in Jan so no harm sending him and/or Branthwaite out on loan for 10 weeks. They can always be recalled at that point if necessary.

Carlo knows the best.

...folk on the youth team thread know the I’ve particularly highlighted this lad for the past couple of years. There was debate about whether he might develop into a LB, but he’s now got terrific size and bulk that he has to be a left sided CB.

My fear for him is that we need a CB and we particularly need a Left sided CB. The club seemed slow to sort out a new deal when his contract was due up this summer. Branthwaite has come in, leapfrogged Gibson and is now a first team squad player.

i’m trying to apply logic. I wonder if being sent on loan in our current predicament means he’s not highly thought of and Ancelotti thinks it’s less risky to play somebody else out of position.

I reckon the loan for him was all sorted before Branthwaite's injury and now they'll possibly renege on it if they can't bring in cover.

Club are in a decent position though because whilst we have till October 5th to sign cover we have a bit longer than that to get this load a loan out.

Thankfully Branthwaite isn't due to be out for long.

I think Gibson himself wanted game time and brands came up with the loan to league 1 and now the championship and next season he'll get a chance if he proves himself. Best for all partys.

As hes been on loan this year already and he cant play for 3 teams in a calendar year if we play him then he cant go on loan for regular games which we have promised.

If thats true Zat then that's a gold star for you because I don't think anyone else has mentioned this possible scenario being a cause for why we can't play him.

The problem is if he stays he might not get much game time as Mina and Keane will still be first choice. Although if either picks up an injury before Branthwaite recovers it may be a costly error sending him out on loan.

He can also go on loan until the middle of October. I suspect they may keep him until Brainthwaite is back training.
