List 5 to 10 albums that have had a huge influence on your life and/or musical development

More influential than say ...
Miles Davis
Beatles
Rolling Stones
The Beach Boys....et al , ok
Apologies mate, I just left the previous about P-Funk/Clinton as a statement.

This sort of thing.

The gaslight anthem aren't my thing at all, so that's fine but man I'll never understand your interest in American Idiot. Great ones with Brand New and AFI tho
American Idiot is on there because it was 10 year old me's first album that I loved and started my love of guitar music. Was gonna put Blink's greatest hits on there for the same reason.

But I still have plenty of time now for American Idiot.

The Gaslight Anthem scratch my Americana itch better than anyone else. They're like MY Springsteen.

It is tough to just pick a few that are important over the years as there are so many important bands but as a youngster these first two were played a lot around the house and were a part of the soundtrack to my childhood and have stayed with me throughout.

Later bands and albums that influenced my musical journey

Having just been to the Antics anniversary tour I was tempted to put that but this was what got me into them

I was torn as to whether to put Songs For the Deaf but I have played this more since the initial tour/release.

With the time of year a notable mention has to go to Frank for his Christmas album which is as much a part of Christmas as having a tree up.

Also I should really have added Witches Brew classical album with Tam O Shanter overture, as that was a gateway to classical when I was a kid.

I'll look at this later and want to change it, there are so many important bands/artists.

Gave you a “like” just because of Nilsson, what a singer and songwriter he was, died far too soon.
One of my favourite singers is Della Reese and the “ The Classic Della” album illustrates why, she puts emotion and style into every song. When she sings “It’s Magic “ later on it outclasses other versions of the song because of that emotion and style in every word she sings.

Ahh I get it, I thought you were a bit older

Yeah I understand why gaslight anthem are so big, and I've tried just never been my thing. The same with Drive By Truckers and the War on Drugs after Kurt Vile left, it's a vibe

When I was a kid in the 80s I loved prog rock like Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Marillion, Pink Floyd etc . The Wall was an influence particularly the film, I’d love a 4k remaster of that or a chance to see it on the big screen.

Not necessarily the best albums ever but definitely the 5 that popped into my head from growing up.

Burial - Untrue is fabulous.

Probably not my favourite records by any stretch, and certainly not the most listened to.

But these are the first ones that came to mind, that were probably gateway albums, that either opened my eyes to other artists or genres, or showed me the importance of production techniques, or how lyrics could carry simple songs if good enough, or pushed my appreciation of musical chops.

The type of records that made me want to hear more records.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II
Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
Otis Redding - Otis Blue
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
Robert Johnson - The Complete Recordings
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Dr Dre - 2001
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Primal Scream - Screamadelica
The Smiths - Strangeways here we come
