List 5 to 10 albums that have had a huge influence on your life and/or musical development

It is tough to just pick a few that are important over the years as there are so many important bands but as a youngster these first two were played a lot around the house and were a part of the soundtrack to my childhood and have stayed with me throughout.

Later bands and albums that influenced my musical journey

Having just been to the Antics anniversary tour I was tempted to put that but this was what got me into them

I was torn as to whether to put Songs For the Deaf but I have played this more since the initial tour/release.

With the time of year a notable mention has to go to Frank for his Christmas album which is as much a part of Christmas as having a tree up.

Also I should really have added Witches Brew classical album with Tam O Shanter overture, as that was a gateway to classical when I was a kid.

I'll look at this later and want to change it, there are so many important bands/artists.

Funkadelic excellent choice.
My mates brother was a DJ and he raved about stuff like that late 70s.

The Cure - Disintegration
Slowdive - Souvlaki
The Gaslight Anthem - 59 Sound
AFI - The Art Of Drowning
Brand New - Your Favourite Weapon
Counting Crows - August and Everything After
Green Day - American Idiot
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
The Get Up Kids - Something to Write Home About
Deafheaven - Sunbather

Seeing that list now I've typed it out... I really like sad music

Tough gig this. In fact it's impossible. Another part of the world with differing cultural influences would see Elvis at least make an appearance, or something country & western.

Revolver
Songs in the key of life
Thriller
Nevermind
Back to Black

Reckon at this moment this is about as fair as I can call it. I reckon these five have touched nearly everyone on the planet if even only slightly. Beatlemania, The genius of Wonder, The pop world of MTV, Grunge, and heartbreak.

Do a second five later. Elton get's a nod there.

More influential than say ...
Miles Davis
Beatles
Rolling Stones
The Beach Boys....et al , ok
As I mentioned Jazzy, it is a difficult task but I assumed we were speaking about personal milestones.

Pet Sounds was jousting along with Safe As Milk, Cosmo's Factory and the many guitar bands. But then were do you start with Nina Simone, Ella or Aretha! I did not even mention Floyd, Zep or Prince and dare I say ELO, never mind more recent players.

It was a tough ask and I just took it in the moment and of beacons/moments in my life.

The gaslight anthem aren't my thing at all, so that's fine but man I'll never understand your interest in American Idiot. Great ones with Brand New and AFI tho

Souvlaki and Disintegration ❤️

I freely admit to not understanding their popularity. 🤷‍♂️

Yea I've never got them, although I think it's cool they had a keyboard instead of a bassist. Morrison seemed a bit of an idiot too

This is a great paragraph in a Silver Jews review, always tickles me:

'The first time I played it—that unsteady strumming of electric guitar, David Berman’s country deadpan—I suspect it was in the living room of my dad’s apartment. He raised his eyebrow and wondered aloud if Silver Jews were the worst band he’d ever heard. I pointed out that he owned two albums by the Doors.'
