Thought that other than the disallowed goal ("Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"), the referee had a very decent match.

Yeah but other than the disallowed goal what did he have to do?

One big decision, one big decision cocked up.

Does anyone else think if the ref stops play before a free kick/corner to talk to an attacking player (and defender) the attacking player in question should switch to the top of the box and get replaced by someone else? (Haven't read whole thread so if this has been covered ... sorry.)

I don't care if he's replaced by someone not quite as good -- the ref is going to blow his damn whistle if the ball comes anywhere near the player he just had a word with. It happens almost every damn time. The ref will be watching him so get him out of there. In fact this method could help you get away with more stuff -- ref follows the warned player as he moves away from where the ball is going and perhaps the new player on the goal-line has a little less scrutiny.

... and yes it's possible the whistle wasn't for Vic but for Distin (or just for some ghost only the ref could see) but any-time the goalie goes down with an attacker nearby there is going to be a whistle. I still say pull the player out of there and give the ref one less excuse to blow his little whistle and take a goal away (which seems to be their favourite thing to do in the entire world).

Or just don't challenge the keeper, he wasn't getting that cross with vic there or not as he completely misjudged where it was going and started off in the wrong direction

DM should have started with Jelly & Victor up top why? because when jelly had been on for only 5 minutes Brenda fetched Skirtle on, & went five at the back - I got the feeling they were happy with the 0-0 our midfield was too deep & we hoofed it far too much - when Jelly came on we pushed them back a lot & kept possession more - does DM not learn from our last away game at Sunderland that 1 upfront just does not work!

They're dreadful together and we would have surrendered the control we had over the game in the middle of the park.

I despair with some of our fans obsession with 442, as though it would turn us into a free flowing attacking force, when in fact it has completely the opposite effect.

OK just hoof it all day to an isolated Victor!

Tbf to him most if not all them performances come when he's played up top off the striker. Play him CM and he nearly always performes.

If he stays next season he MUST play CM not ACM. It was a whiley move early season by moyes that took alot of teams by suprise but it has turned very in affective second half of season. Would like to see Barkley play No.10 the last 2 games.

Would like to see Barkley play the No10 role for the next 2 years - and then move to the box-to-box role.

The defenders generally played well, but both teams lacked quality when on the ball. Really showed up why the English game is so far behind Spain and Germany.

Inclined to think that Neville would have been hammered had he played like Gibson did though. So many poorly placed passes.

He certainly didnt have his passing boots on.

To be honest I will be glad when Fellaini is sold , I don't blame him for the way it's turned out but I can't be arsed with his elbows and disappearing acts anymore .

A Liverpool fan said to me today, " that Fellaini is a top player, it's a petty your manager just sticks him up the pitch to be a target man". I sort of agreed with him, someone will buy him and use him right and he will be a top player in central midfield.

Seriously? What the hell did Distin do wrong?

Thought he got very, very lucky with Sturridge a few times standing off letting him turn and run when he should have got tighter and showed him outside. He was well out of position more than once and got lucky with Jagielka pulling him out of it.

OSMAN???

ARE YOU INJECTING ACTUAL SMACK?

I thought the whole back 5 played well, apart from that, utter pants.

The only one who got on the ball and picked a pass. Everyone else took the easy option or couldn't pass wind. Didn't shirk a tackle either unlike some. Tried to Gerrard as well.

Didn't think our full backs went forward enough myself. Defended decent like.

Couldn't disagree more.
