The strongest winds in the UK tend to be south westerly, and those runways are aligned NW-SE, so not in an optimal direction. Crosswind landings galore.

When the trade winds get going in the tropics, they're not as strong as the winds we can get in the UK, but the mountainous nature of these islands causes the wind to do some odd things, making approaches very challenging to stabilise.


Pilots work hard when it's blowing a howly. Give them some love.

Why do people watch planes all day? Is it in the hope that they get to watch one crash? I don't get it.

I don't think so.

I think the livestreaming trend is growing the popularity of what would previously be considered to be uncool anorak type interests, like trainspotting, bird watching ect. People can get a sense of the real time "action" without having to camp out in the rain all day, or god forbid get noticed in the act by a peer lol
