Lord of the rings.

The trilogy in film was awesome. However, I still liked Tolkien's books better. But Peter Jackson did superb and the locations were great. Wasn't it filmed in NZ.

I found the costumes and the actors all a bit pretty to be honest. I expected a bit more grit, more akin to the books. There was a very American feel about the whole thing, which Tolkein didn't originally portray. Plus, I loved Sam in the originals, but found him to be the most fawning, revolting creature in the movies. In saying that, Gollum's psychology was very well portrayed. I think Tolkein would have approved of that aspect.

But I agree that as a piece of film, it was a fantastic achievement.

Lads , and Cal , in particular , can we just take a moment here to realise that we are discussing whether Lord of the Rings is the best movie ever ??!! This , in a world with , The Godfather , The Maltese Falcon , Deer Hunter , Cuckoo's Nest , The Third Man , and Cindy does Akron , Ohio , ... But you get my point .
I loved the books when I first read them as a youth . I even take on board the task which faced Jackson , and the job he did , but best ever ?? Not on your nelly , as the popular idiom goes .
Symptamatic of the modern phenomenon of , for example , lists of all-time greatest albums , out of top 100 , 70 odd were post year 2000 . Like Americans ,and Kopites , todays youth think history was the week before last .
Decent movie but never best ever . Not in top 20 .
