2019/20 Lucas Digne

Do we reckon he could work on the left of a back 3 with Holgate on the right side?
He could but we rely on him creatively too much right now to do that imo.

I don't get this narrative that he's not playing well this year. I think he was wasteful yesterday but by and large he's been just as effective going forward this year as he was before. He's still the best player on the team at passing the ball forward and with no midfield to speak of his ability there has been vital. The main difference is he hasn't scored any belters this season which isn't a thing that always happens even for great shooters. Defensively he's still fine like he was before. He's still one of the best LBs in the league.

Maybe Digne is going through a rough patch, I don't know. Or maybe he is basically rather crap. See his free kick? The lads at half time playing hit the bar could do better than that. We are suffering from the loss of the old Coleman after his terrible injury and Baines' semi retirement. What a terrible squad this is.

Decent but nothing more. Far too many on here have overreacted and think this lad is a world beater.
He's about as good as it gets as an attacking fullback in the league currently. Obviously the RS have their guys, but they also have a system that allows them to play more like wingers. After that it's Digne and a few others.

He was wasteful last night no doubt. But on the whole he's a quite effective player.

Are you disagreeing with me? I said he is decent but not a world beater. You said he is up there with the rest after the two from the RS. That would place him in the decent but not world beater category.

The quality of full backs in this league is fairly mediocre with some obvious exceptions.

Being the 3rd best fullback in the league is more than decent. Maybe he isn't a world bearer either but I think there's probably an area in between.

I'm an absolutist whereas you are clearly a relativist. Anyway, I wouldn't place him above Leicester's fullbacks. So decent is about right, for me.

Will I settle for him being arguably the second or third best player at his position in the league given the state of the rest of the squad? Yeah it'll do for now.

I will settle also. But I'm just trying to encourage a rational assessment of his qualities which, in turn, will foster reasonable expectations of him over the long term. The yo-yo of building our players up only to knock them down is part of our deeper problems as a fanbase.

Yeah I got you but in this case I think it's worth being positive. He's a really solid player.
