Lukaku. Yes or no

An astonishingly good goalscorer; an astonishingly bad footballer. Its not hard to understand - he'll score you 20 a season minimum but cost you games against good opposition due to his limitations.

This has been proven beyond doubt. My "vendetta" isn't against Lukaku; its against those who massively overrated goal output. Lee Trundle would have scored a few for Man Utd in his prime but actually signing him would have been insane - Lukaku is an upmarket variant of the same principle.

There's a reason he's at the Premier League rejects club in a league a hop, skip and a jump away in quality from the SPL. It's because no top club with any brain whatsoever would give him a second look. There's a reason for that and it's my dearest wish that people would bloody understand why that is ffs
A fair bit of hyperbole in there mate.

Rom was a good player for us, but his record in the really big games was poor.I said 4 years ago that he was a flat track bully. Some people here got thick with me over that remark, but i stand over that assessment. But here is Rom playing in a major european final, and to be fair to him he did score the winning goal. The only problem was that it was an own goal.lol

It’s a funny one isn’t it? Banged on for years how Everton wasn’t good enough for him and he should be winning trophies. Moved on at the first sniff of a big club and has won nothing since. I don’t think any bigger club than inter will take him and I don’t think they are toppling Juventus any time soon. Italian league cup might be the highest accolade he can hope for, great goal scorer though.

I agree with a lot of that, and you're right about Benzema being underappreciated I just think Rom is really good too.

Neymar imo isn't a striker. I don't watch PSG all the time but he's only ever played as a winger or #10 when I've watched. Mbappe though is some player.
Fair point regarding Neymar (probably in the same boat as Messi and C.Ronaldo).
A fair bit of hyperbole in there mate.
Think he has a point. Lukaku is the focal point upfront, which means he dictates so much of how a team plays as everything is geared towards him. He disrupts the fluidity of the team as he doesn’t get involved in build up play..he’s basically a one dimensional player who relies on through balls and crosses.

Mentioned Zlatan earlier..he too is a focal point, and he disrupted the flow of Barca. That tiki taka stuff (when it was executed by the very best, namely Xavi), with Zlatan up front it wasn’t possible to play it. You need players who drop deep, pulling defenders out of position and leaving space upfront for the others to run in to...in remaining upfront Zlatan never left that space, and he never got involved in build up play. Zlatan was a world class striker but not a world class team player, Lukaku is neither.

Someone like a Benzema (or Firmino), they won’t get anywhere near the goal tally of an out and out number 9, but the team will score more goals overall as they facilitate their teammates, bringing others in to play. Aguero is another world class striker, but he’s not a Pep type player in that he doesn’t facilitate teammates (recall him being heavily linked with a move away when Pep took over). Because City are loaded with creative team players they have been able to get away with having a singular player upfront. It wouldn’t work in a less creative team....Argentina being one.
