Lukaku

In today's climate I'm surprised figures of £30-40m aren't being floated around for Lukaku.

I'd put money on some team paying £28 million or more for Lukaku. Everton won't be able to compete financially, even if Lukaku would entertain to idea of coming back to us. You don't often find strikers at his age with that level of production in one of the toughest leagues in the world. I wouldn't even be surprised if someone offered £35 million. There's a ton of money out there and Lukaku is a pretty safe investment.

HE STILL SAYS EVERTON ON HIS TWITTER LA

I don't think his link up play is all that bad, I just think to his first Goodison game were he played a nice little through ball to Barkley who then slotted it in. He and Naismith showed some decent understanding in the latter half of the season, sure it needs work, but then so does Barkley's and Deulofeu's.

The only real concern, for me, is his first touch. But I firmly believe with more experience, he'll train it into his game. You have to bear in mind, this is his first season were he's being expected to receive the ball and bring other players into the game, rahter than exclusively being an impact sub and/or being an outlet on the counter.

I saw him play in the Europa League semi or final that year and yeah, he played an absolute stormer alone up top. He score a brace past Newcastle in the semi final that year but not sure if that was the game.

The rest is from his Wiki so fairly trustworthy I'd say, backed up by this http://www.worldfootball.net/teams/ea-guingamp/2002/2/

(Wow, that's a dazzle of UBB-wizardry)

I am making a mistake.

I thought Jose converted him into a striker at Porto but he never played for Porto.

He played for Marseille.

I don't know what I was thinking

I don't have a problem paying £20m-£25m for Lukaku. He scored plenty of goals in the last two seasons, is young, can improve.

My quandry would be if our budget is say £30m; we need a lot of players.

Can we afford to spend almost all our kitty on one player, however potentially brilliant he is/will be?

you'd think that we wouldn't pay that sort of sum all up front, i'm not sure if teams pay fees all up front anymore. paying (approx.) £12-15m up front leaving enough left to strengthen the other areas, whilst eating (approx.) £7-10m out of the next two seasons' budgets would be the best way you'd feel. with all the youngsters we're bringing through in the team atm you would think we won't have to be super busy in the next two seasons anyway.

Unless of course the training program is specifically designed to develop and refine new motor skills? Like when an adult decides to learn to juggle, or play a musical instrument? I'll give you that children are more receptive to learning motor skills, but there is nothing to stop adults developing new motor skills: particularly adults who are being paid to do just that, and are doing so in an environment entirely geared up to their so doing. Like a football club, with the support of football coaches.

Except he didn't grow up in the english game. Alberto, Brooking and Capello were talking about YOUTH coaching in this country.

Your suggestion that Lukaku cannot, under the guidance of any coaching staff at any club, further develop his fine motor skills is simply incorrect. It is therefore entirely invalid to suggest that at 21 years old he is as good as he's ever going to be.

How old is Barkley, btw?

Barkleys control and technical ability is of an exceptional level. His decision making is what needs improving, what's your point?

Yup. Ignore the rest of the post, and respond to one line, devoid of context. Strong riposte.

My point was that Barkley is 20, so according to your theory we should cease training him because he won't improve now - he's too old.

What's my point? FFS.

Sooo, you actually think sportsmen improve their motor skills at 20 years of age... say no more. Training maintains them not improves them.

Look at Tennis players, Boxers - my mate is an ABA finalist who coaches now, he said himself that by 18 the speed and reflexes are pretty much formed and rarely improved, its craft that is improved. From 25 the decline sets in and the boxer relies on experience and tactics.

so sounds like ba is staying a well..ba,ccosta,torres
think this increases likelihood of lukaku leaving?
