Lukaku

I think it's quite easy to put into context why he scored 15 goals last season. He was the first choice lone striker for the 5th best team in the league. All teams who finished above had at least 2 viable striker options.

I think a fit Louis Saha or yak playing in our team last year is 20 goals.

He scored 15 goals because he's a great player. End of.

He is better than Sturridge mate although a different type of player to all 3 you mentioned. The lad scores goals and will get better. Can't see the problem here
Not sure about that to be honest. 21 goals in 29 games last season isn't bad.

I think Lukaku will be one of the best strikers in the world within a few years. He has been criticized almost in a way we criticize an experienced player of 24-25 years old...forgetting he is still a very young player. When one starts to look a bit deeper one realizes that what he has already achieved at this young and tender age is amazing. Maybe we should rewind a bit and look into who he really is up to now and why is he rated so highly.

As a youth he played for Lierse scoring 121 goals in 68 games. He then went on to play for Anderlects youth team and scored 131 goals in 93 games. At 16 he signed his first professional contract with Anderlecht and finished as top goalscorer (15 goals) in the Belgium league in his debut season, as a 16yo, despite still attending school. Its also maybe worth mentioning that 12 of those games he played as substitute. He also scored 4 more goals in the Europe league that season taking his goal tally to 19 goals. He became the third youngest goalscorer in European club competition history when he scored against Ajax on December 2009. The following year as a 17yo he scored 20 goals for Anderlecht, 16 in the league, 3 in the Champions league from 3 appearances and 1 in the Europa league.

He joined Chelsea in 2011 as a 18 yo. He played most of his matches for the reserves and only played 159 minutes for Chelsea's first team.

In 2012, as a 19yo, he was loaned out to WBA and scored 17 goals in 35 appearances starting in only 20 matches with the rest as substitute. It is worth mentioning that of that 17 goals 7 was with his left foot, 5 with his right foot, 4 headers and 1 by other means. He was one of only 3 players that scored more than 2 goals with his left foot, right foot and head.

In 2013 he joined Everton (us) on loan and scored 16 goals in all competitions, of which 15 was in the league from 31 appearances. From that 16 goals, 8 was with his left foot, 5 with his right foot and 3 with his head. Its worth noting that only Louis Suarez scored with more versatility this season than Lukaku in the Premiere league. Its also worth noting that at 20yo he has scored 32 goals as a loan player in 2 seasons, more than any other loan player in Premiere league history.

Its hard to fathom that he is still only 20yo age and still developing as a player. His worst flaw thus far has been his decision making but that will improve over time and experience. Once that is improved he will start scoring more consistently, his assists will improve and he could become one of the best striker in the world. What he needs to do as a striker he does exceptionally well for his age. I for one would love to see him permanently at Everton while we can still afford a player like him, as I am sure we will reap the benefits in the long run.

Couldn't agree more. That was a cracking post with stats to back up how great the lad is.

wow, some of those stats, i didn't know before. he's a monster plain and simple. always said he'll be one of the best in the world in a few years and he clearly will be. he'll have success on the international stage as well let's not forget and is one of a handful of players to score a hat-trick against an alex ferguson's united.

also the 3rd top scorer in the league behind suarez and van persie over the last two seasons? not bad considering he's had west brom and everton players providing him compared to others like aguero who's he's finished above having mass millions of players providing him.

it would be a risk spending the majority of this summer's budget on him, but we'd more than double it within a couple of years imo.

Well said, totally agree. The kid is going to be unstoppable in a few years. Its his dedication to learn about the game which i find fascinating about him, he wants to be the best. We need to move heaven and earth to sign him up, 20 million is a bargain for him, it really is.

I havent thought of looking at the top scorers combined over 2 years in the Premiere league. I quickly checked and you are right....this is the quick result...
Suarez Played 66 Goals 54
van Persie Played 59 Goals 38
Lukaku Played 68 Goals 32
Sturridge Played 50 Goals 32
Dzeko Played 62 Goals 30
Rooney Played 56 Goals 29
Aguerro Played 53 Goals 29
Benteke Played 60 Goals 29
Lambert Played 75 Goals 28
Giroud Played 70 Goals 27
Toure Played 67 Goals 26

i'm still not sure how aguero is so low, he's the best striker in the league, suppose injuries haven't helped but van persie's had his as well.

suppose city share so many goals around it's a different game plan to liverpool's for example.

Absolutely agree with you there. It was his willingness to learn and dedication that first fascinated me about him as its something rarely found in young players. He is determined to be the best and will give it his all. Also agree fully that 20mil would be a bargain...

Different games/minutes played. Aguero is 120 mins per goal while Lukaku is 144 mins per goal in the league over the last 2 seasons. Lukaku's numbers are still extraordinary though given his age and that half his time was at West Brom.
