Lukaku

Still not sure if this good or bad news. Not as pessimistic as I was the other day, but for the life of me can't see why they'd sell Lukaku and bring in a past it Drogba.

Either Lukaku has demanded a move no matter what, or Drogba has been brought in as a tutor for him for a year as he eases into the first team - but with signing Costa, he's got no chance of regular first team football at Chelsea anyway.

If this were even partly a sweetener to keep Rom at the club, there'd be some hint of it in what either Mourinho or Drogba have said about the deal - there hasn't been. Chelsea fans would love to know either way as much as we would, there's nothing to be gained from dragging it out if it isn't still at least 50/50 on him coming to us - and there's no way they'd bring Drogba in to mentor him if they weren't basically certain that it would keep him around.

If he doesn't end up coming to Everton, it's not because of a decision that anyone has made yet.

I'm still not convinced this will happen. Now I can only be pleasantly surprised though I suppose. The idea of us spending£20m on anyone is frightening.

Seems a bit coincidental to me that Chelsea bring in his replacement before he leaves. Seems to me the selling club in a position of power covered their bases before letting an asset go, which is normal - see us with McCarthy/Fellaini.
....and the day before he's due back from his hols to boot.

If they've decided to part company with him I can't see Maureen being overly keen to have him back at their training camp for long, if at all....

If the deal does go through I think it'll be the opposite, an agreement would have already been in place and it was waiting for Chelsea to sort their end out. A bit like a house chain.

That's what I meant/said mate. Agreement in place, Chelsea not letting go of an asset before bringing another in.

Do you not think its odd that it is very quiet on lukaku? No teams have been reported as making a bid and Mourinho hasn't said anything. For a top class striker there would normally be clubs queing up. I recon it's on

Well if I wasn't certain before, Chelsea bringing drogba back now just confirms 100% to me that lukaku will be coming back.

Everything is falling in line with what would have to happen for us to sign him. And tbh the time scales are about right really as he's been on holiday until yesterday/today.

I wouldn't be supprised if it was announced as early as tonight!!

Either he sees it as them buying another striker to go ahead of him in the pecking order, meaning they have no faith in him and justifying his decision to want to leave.

Or he sees it as them signing his childhood hero and he can't possibly miss the opportunity of training with his idol every day, even if it means he's bench warming and rarely starts any games.

Personally, he's been his own man for the last 2 seasons at WBA & EFC. I think it would be a massive move backwards in terms of his career development to go back to being a Chelsea benchwarmer. And I actually think he knows that too. The lad has a bit of an ego about him, which may actually help us in our quest to sign him.

No because it's long been established he's on holiday until Monday and nothing will happen before then.

Whether anything has gone on in the background - who knows. I suspect there has been negotiations; both clubs don't want it broadcast though.

Ossie talking about his testimonial; "He added: “It would be good to have Romelu back. We know the quality he's got. There might be a bit more to do to get him back here but it would be great if he could come back in time to play in the game."

So other clubs can't bid or mourhino can't talk about a player on holiday?
